TOUR OF BRIGHT 2025

SUVelo was represented by Tim Curry & Emlyn Simpson in Mens Masters B, ably supported by Donncha Redmond on official swannie duties.
Stage One 90km Gaps Loop to Tawonga Gap

A wet Saturday for stage one and a hectic start with many attempts at a breakaway failing before the Sprint point where a small group got away into the Rosewhite gap climb. The bunch almost pulled them back with Emlyn leading over the climb and Tim just behind, fearing splits on the wet descent. The break were again almost pulled back before the bunch sat up and let them have an almost 2 min gap to the bottom of Tawonga, which the leader held up the climb to win. A couple of others went off the front as the bunch slimmed down on the climb. Emlyn and Tim stayed with the dwindling bunch until a final kick for the line.
Emlyn 10th @3.21
Tim 18th @3.29
Stage Two – ITT Buckland Valley 17.4km

Fortunately, Masters B were off again in the afternoon before the thunder and rain hit the later bunches. A scorching TT by Emlyn clocking 44.6km per hr for 4th place on the stage moved him up to 7th overall @3.00
Tim 19th @5.27
Stage Three – Mount Buffalo Queen stage 38.8km

Sunday dawned sunny but cold for the traditional final stage up Mt Buffalo. The bunch largely stayed together until the climb and then the pace increased until at KOM 1, half way up, Tim was dropped. Emlyn continued with the ever decreasing bunch until there were only 11 left, chasing a lone attacker. In a final sprint for the line Emlyn got 4th place and secured 4th overall at 3.00 to the winner. A career best result for Emlyn, only 1 sec off 3rd place!
19th for Tim @ 8.58

Overall a great weekend’s racing.

With the final round last Saturday at Oatley Park, the inaugural Sydney Winter Soupa Series has been run and won.russell.1612 showed consistency throughout the series to place in every race to take out the overall men’s C grade. also raced well to finish just out of the winnings in 4th place in a competitive women’s C. Our race captain missed the last race galavanting in London and finished in 2nd overall in women’s A.
The series has been an enormous success and along with have been proud to be a sponsor and supporter.
The organisers are keen to get some feedback about the series so if you were one of the 378 riders who took part, we’d appreciate if you could take the time to fill out a survey about the series. 🔗 Link in Bio.

Another fantastic weekend racing the Winter Soupa Series with Daz, Bron, Emlyn and Nic doing the Heffron/Waratah Park double header and Tim joining them on Sunday (with Donncha as cheerleader).
Points on both days for Daz (Men’s C) and Bron (Women’s C) with Nic winning the Women’s A double.
With just one round remaining at Oatley Park, Daz and Nic are holding on to the series lead, although our Race Captain is off to the UK on Friday so will forgo her series win!

Rounds 2 & 3 of the Winter Soupa Series took place this weekend in glorious winter sunshine, with huge numbers at both Waratah Park and Lansdowne.
Seb, Daz and Brendan lined up in Men’s C, Tim, Emlyn and Matt in Men’s B, Bron in Women’s C and Nic Oh in Women’s A.
Series ranking TBC, but Daz appears to be holding on to 2nd place in Men’s C, with Nic leading Women’s A. SUVelo and are sponsoring the overall series prizes so hopefully they can pick up some of the club’s cash 💰.
We’re halfway through the series, with another double header next weekend at Heffron Park hosted by on Saturday, and Waratah Park hosted by on Sunday. It’s been fantastic seeing some many people at local Sydney races.
