20c could change the game for our waterways!

Debbie was down at the Werribee River cleanup chatting with locals about why doubling the refund to 20c is a massive win for the environment. More incentive means less litter in our beautiful rivers!

We are so proud of the incredible work our Plastic Free Places champion, Currumbin surf Club has become the first surf club to go plastic free on the Gold Coast! A massive achievement from the whole team 🌊🐚

42 million pieces of plastic. Not cleaned up. Prevented.

Brands are still running trials. The government is still consulting.

We've been busy doing something about it.

- 42 million pieces of plastic eliminated.
- 35 billion bottles and cans recycled.
- 24 categories of single-use plastic were pushed for banning.
- 3,000+ food and drink businesses committed to cutting plastic.
- Communities and small businesses across Australia are working with us to shift the system.

These aren't cleanup numbers. They're prevention numbers. That's the difference between mopping up the flood and fixing the leak.

"Port Douglas is only small in size, but we are very serious about our sustainability." 🌿

The results are in for the first 12 months of the 'Douglas Chooses to Reuse' project, and the momentum is real. Thanks to local cafes, residents, and visitors, over 10,000 single-use cups and lids have been kept out of our beautiful environment.

Spearheaded by the Boomerang Alliance and funded by the Queensland Government, this trial is showing the rest of the state exactly what is possible when a community rallies together.

We are incredibly proud to announce that on World Ocean Day, Currumbin SLSC has officially become the Gold Coast’s very first surf club and restaurant to be named a Plastic Free Champion! 🏆♻️

Through the Boomerang Alliance’s Plastic Free Places program, they have been working hard on their sustainability journey to protect the beautiful ocean right on their doorstep. By eliminating single-use plastic packaging across their operations, they are keeping thousands of pieces of plastic out of their waste streams and oceans every single year. 🙅‍♂️ plastics!

Even their amazing volunteer surf lifesavers joined the movement this season! By switching to reusable cups and water canteens, their patrol team alone saved over 2,000 pieces of plastic during the 2025/2026 season.

Every small change adds up to a massive impact. Thank you to the incredible community, staff, and members for helping us protect our oceans. Next time you drop in for a meal or a coffee, know that you’re supporting a cleaner, greener Gold Coast!

10,000+ single-use cups SAVED from litter and landfill! ☕️

This World Environment Day we're celebrating our Plastic Free Places Port Douglas Program.

One year ago, Port Douglas became the first in Queensland to trial this game-changing reusable cup system with Cercle Cups and the community has absolutely loved it.

The rules? There are none. No sign-ups, no deposits. Just ask for a bright blue cup at a participating local cafe, enjoy your coffee, and drop it back in a return pod when you're done. They get commercially washed, sanitised, and sent right back out. 🧼✨

With Australians tearing through 4.4 million single-use cups a day, Port Douglas is proving there’s a better way to get our caffeine fix.

Watch to see how easy it is to choose reuse!

We need stronger laws to reduce plastic pollution.

Australia generates more plastic waste per person than almost any country on Earth. Only 13% gets recycled. The rest ends up in landfill, our waterways, and inside us.

Hundreds of millions of single-use coffee cups every year. Littered. Landfilled. Gone.

Right now, NSW Parliament has the chance to change that. A world-first reusable cup law is on the table - the first of its kind in Australia.

We won the first vote.

The upper house is next.

One policy shift can prevent millions of pieces of plastic from ever reaching the environment.

50+ organisations. 40,000 supporters and 10,000+ signatures. We are this close.

Help us finish it.

Plastic pollution is threatening our children's future.
The plastic in our rivers, beaches and air is not inevitable. It is the result of systems that can be changed. And right now, the national laws that
will determine how much plastic our children grow up with are being decided.

Australia generates more plastic waste per person than almost any country on Earth. Only 13% is recycled. Microplastics are already in the
food our kids eat and the air they breathe.

We work through stronger laws, bans on unnecessary plastics, and directly with governments, communities and small businesses to shift Australia toward reuse and away from throwaway systems.

Reuse in action! 🌿 A big shoutout to one of our community members for sharing this photo of reusable cups being used at ENGIE Stadium.

It's incredibly encouraging to see large-scale venues embracing the reuse movement and making it easier for crowds to reduce single-use waste. Every cup makes a difference, whether it's at your local coffee shop or a stadium packed with fans. 🏟️👏
