Women's Community Shelters

Women's Community Shelters We are a specialist network of shelters, transitional homes and meanwhile use properties across NSW. WCS currently has 13 shelters across NSW.

We work community by community to establish an Australia where women and their children are safe, secure, supported and equal. WCS offers women and children at risk of homelessness, domestic and family violence shelter, active case management, support, dignity, self-esteem and a chance to start anew, through the establishment, operation and/or supervision of women’s community shelters and low cost

accommodation. We are planning to open the first shelter on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria in 2026.

NEW DATA: The latest release by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that in women’s most recent incident of physical assault, the perpetrator was most often a family member or intimate partner (44%), and about half of the assaults occurred in a home (48%).

This reflects what WCS has long observed and what decades of research confirm: women are at heightened risk of violence, most commonly from men they know, in the home.

On April 18 and 19, join us at the What Were You Wearing? rallies across Australia! to create space to stand with victim-survivors and challenge the harmful narratives that still exist around gendered violence. This isn’t just about showing up physically. It’s about listening, learning, and being part of a culture that believes and supports victim-survivors.

If this is something you care about, we encourage you to attend a rally near you or share the message in your own way. Or come and hear WCS CEO Annabelle Daniel OAM speak on 18 April 2026 🧡

All information can be found on What Were You Wearing?
