Life, Marriage & Family

Life, Marriage & Family The Life Marriage and Family team operates under the auspices of the Archbishop of Sydney, Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP.

Life, Marriage and Family in the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney works to promote the Catholic Church's beautiful teachings on human life, marriage and family and does so through the facilitation of resources, presentations and evangelising opportunities. The Life Marriage and Family team is intent on building a culture of life and love in the Archdiocese of Sydney which affirms the foundational el

ements of marriage and family in the knowledge that these are critical in the establishment of a humane and flourishing society. Particular attention and resourcing is given to the promotion of a deeper understanding of the human person, the gift of human sexuality, fertility awareness methods, and the uniqueness and sacredness of Holy Matrimony compared to other forms of relationships. Marriage education and enrichment, parenting issues and men's ministry, the impact of divorce and marital separation, and the interests of children, are also areas of focus for the Life, Marriage and Family Team. The Life, Marriage and Family team encourages your engagement with our team members who are available to support parishes, schools, family and youth groups, and other agencies of the Archdiocese in any of the aforementioned areas by way of talks, presentations, focused resource development, or facilitated group information sessions.

Walking with Christ: A new resource for parishes

We’re delighted to share the new Walk with Christ companion for parishes, as part of our preparations for International Eucharistic Congress (Eucharist28) in 2028.

Developed through the Sydney Centre for Evangelisation, this practical resource has been created for parishes, chaplaincies and Catholic groups across Sydney. It offers a simple way to enter more deeply into Eucharistic renewal through Scripture, prayer, reflection and conversation. The International Eucharistic Congress will bear lasting fruit when Eucharistic formation takes root in the life of our parishes. This journey begins now.

Thousands of copies of the resource have now arrived in parishes across Sydney, with translations in Arabic, Chinese, Tagalog and other languages also on the way, helping make the resource accessible across the Church's many cultural and language communities.

As we look towards the Walk with Christ procession on Sunday, 22 November, this companion invites us to prepare not simply for an event, but for the personal and enduring renewal offered to us in the Eucharistic Lord.

Please visit the LMF website to receive access to the Parish Guide and Resources which will be updated throughout the next few weeks.

Thank you Sr Anne Martin for sharing your story with us about what it means to serve the elderly in our Parish communities.

Sr Anne is one of many examples of why it is important to celebrate the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly.

The Religious Sister who brings Jesus to Connie’s door

Every Wednesday, Sr Anne Martin brings Holy Communion to 96-year-old Connie Agius, one of many elderly and housebound parishioners supported by All Saints Catholic Parish, Liverpool through home visits, nursing home Masses, livestreams and hospital ministry.

As shared in The Catholic Weekly and speaking about the Sixth World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly (on Sunday 26 July) [1], "For Sr Anne, the day is not only about honouring the elderly but recognising the burden many of them quietly carry: the ache of children and grandchildren who have drifted from the faith. ... Yet in her decades of parish work she has seen that it is grandparents who keep the door to faith ajar.

"Sr Anne sees in Pope Leo’s chosen theme [for Sixth World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly] a continuation of Pope Francis’ tender insistence that the elderly are never disposable.
'I believe he’s bringing forward a lot of Francis’ teaching and Francis’ way of being as a Catholic community,' she said."

An inspirational part of witnessing the Knot So Ordinary Date initiative was meeting the parishoners who are part of the service team.

The couples have been married for 20 years or more and they served hospitality, provided creche for the young children and setup and packed up the items in the Hall.

The Knot So Ordinary Date initiative is not only renewal for the newly-wed married couples but it is a form of parish renewal where parishoners exercise their gifts to serve others.

Thank you to all the Parishoners who served at the Knot So Ordinary Date Session.
