The BSP-ABV partnership continues to go from strength to strength, as we support the roll out of BSP’s Business Bank creating more opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprises through our co-designed capability development program, YES GROW. BSP Financial Group Limited

The energy in Mt Hagen, PNG was firing with another impactful YES GROW training cycle, this time strengthening the vibrant business community in the Highlands Region.

A successful training workshop cycle wrapped up in June, with strong engagement from participating local businesses. We are proud to be supporting a diverse range of enterprises, spanning sectors such as retail, accommodation, tourism, vehicle hire and other vital services.

The YES GROW Program is all about supporting and building on existing capability to:

🌸 Turn business ideas into reality with practical tools, mentoring and step-by-step guidance.

🌸 Build confidence in managing money – including improving understanding of cash flow, pricing and profitability.

🌸 Improve access to finance by becoming loan-ready and building a stronger financial track record.

🌸 Stabilise and grow income, reducing the stress of uncertain income.

🌸 Make more informed business decisions with real-word insights and learning from experienced business professionals.

🌸Strengthen resilience to shocks (e.g. market changes, climate events, loss of major customers, etc.).

🌸 Create jobs as their business grows sustainably.

🌸Expand their choices, including new markets, new products, new opportunities etc.

🌸Have someone in their corner – a trusted business mentor to talk through challenges and opportunities.

Huge thanks to ABV Skilled Business Volunteers Chris Maddock and Jennifer Marshallsea

BSP’s Business Bank is supporting the growth of small to medium-sized businesses in PNG and the South Pacific through our partnership with Australian Business Volunteers (ABV).

The YES GROW program is a practical business capability program designed to help SME customers strengthen how they manage their finances, run their operations, engage customers and plan for sustainable growth.

One stand-out customer success story is Electric Intellex Ltd, an electrical and industrial solutions business led by Managing Director Joe Marogo.

Following ABV’s Cycle #6 of the YES Grow program in Lae, Joe has been using the Business Model Canvas to take a more strategic view of his business, looking beyond day-to-day electrical projects and considering how Electric Intellex can strengthen its brand, systems, and customer relationships to develop longer-term growth opportunities.

A key highlight of Cycle #6 was seeing couples attend training together, showcasing the program's commitment to inclusive business leadership. For Electric Intellex, Joe’s wife Stella, who plays an active role in the management of the business attended alongside him and has been a crucial co-driver behind the business's everyday management and success - demonstrating how shared learning within families helps build stronger, more resilient enterprises.

With projects across Lae, Port Moresby, Popondetta and Mt Hagen - and opportunities emerging in Goroka and Wewak - Electric Intellex is now building a stronger foundation for long-term growth.

Joe’s journey reflects what the YES GROW program is designed to achieve: helping local entrepreneurs turn practical learning into action, create new value and build more resilient businesses.

Supporting SME growth is not just good for individual businesses. It is how we help champion prosperity for families, communities and the South Pacific.

Great conversations, great people and a shared commitment to Singleton's future.

We loved attending the Singleton Business Breakfast and talking with local businesses about the Community Strategy Challenge delivered through the ABV and NAB Foundation partnership.

Singleton has so much to offer, and it has been a privilege to work alongside Singleton Council Business Singleton and locals to help identify opportunities for growth, investment and long-term economic resilience.

The passion and pride within the local business community was on full display, and we're excited to continue supporting the region as it builds on its strengths and plans for the future. Thanks so much for having us!

Our partner, BSP Financial Group Limited just posted this over on Linkedin and we wanted to share here too! Huge thanks to all of volunteers who have travelled to Fiji and shared their expertise.

BSP and Australian Business Volunteers have celebrated a milestone with over 200 Fijian entrepreneurs having now graduated from the Fiji THRIVE program, following the completion of the latest 27-participant cohort in Sigatoka, Fiji.

Participants were from a wide range of sectors, including tourism, hospitality, retail, agribusiness, manufacturing, handicrafts, bakery operations, and sawmilling, reflecting the diversity of Fiji's small business community. We're especially proud that 17 of these businesses are women-owned.

Since launching in 2023, Fiji THRIVE (Together, Helping build a Resilient, Inclusive and Vibrant Economy) has paired entrepreneurs with one-on-one mentoring, hands-on workshops, and continuous coaching, building real capability in financial management, operations, and long-term business planning.

The program is about more than training - it's about championing prosperity by backing entrepreneurs who are solving real problems and creating opportunity in their own communities.

With the Sigatoka program complete, Fiji THRIVE will move to Suva, where a new cohort of entrepreneurs will begin their business capability journey. BSP and ABV remain committed to expanding the program's reach and equipping more Fijians with the skills, mentoring, and confidence to build stronger businesses and contribute to Fiji's economic future.
