ABV volunteer Vera Pajovic was on Country at B**g Yarnda (Lake Tyers) in East Gippsland, working alongside the Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust to explore opportunities for community-led tourism.

B**g Yarnda means “camping waters” in Gunai language and has been an important place for gathering, fishing and camping for thousands of years. The community has a long and proud connection to this place and in 1971, B**g Yarnda was handed back to its people.

Vera brings extensive experience across tourism, sustainable tourism, marketing and business strategy. She’s working alongside the Trust to explore tourism opportunities that are guided by the community, celebrate culture and connection to Country, and create opportunities for local jobs.

Together, the work is looking at how tourism can build on the strengths of B**g Yarnda and contribute to a strong future for the community, on their Country and on their terms.

Have you successfully secured grant funding?

Australian Business Volunteers is seeking experienced Grant Writing Volunteers to share their expertise with regional community organisations across Australia. Volunteer opportunities are hybrid or online.

We're looking for volunteers with hands-on experience in:

👉 Securing grant funding from government, philanthropic or corporate sources

👉 Writing successful grant applications

👉 Developing funding strategies and grant responses

👉 Translating ideas into compelling, fundable proposals

This opportunity is best suited to experienced practitioners who can help build grant writing capability, strengthen future funding outcomes and support regional communities to bring important projects to life.
