In June 1984, the Indian State sent tanks and troops into Sri Darbar Sahib.

In June 2026, the Australian Sikh Association called police on Singhs who wished to remember the Shaheeds of June 1984 and later banned some of those individuals from the Gurdwara, stating it was private property.

The events are not comparable in scale, but many in the Sangat are asking why peaceful remembrance was treated as a problem.

The real question is whether these actions served the interests of the Sikh Sangat.
