Each year due to wide spread baiting, trapping and hunting hundreds if not thousands of wild dingoes are left orphaned or injured and in need of assistance. Because dingoes are not legally considered natives in many states, they are unable to be cared for by most wildlife rescues. Sydney Dingo Rescue is one of only a handful of rescues in Australia that work with wild dingoes. We assist vets, councils and wildlife organisations across Australia by taking referrals for wild dingoes in need of help. In addition to the pressures faced by wild dingoes, in New South Wales the prolific and uncontrolled breeding of dingoes by backyard breeders has led to a huge number of homeless pet/companion dingoes, surrendered to shelters and pounds each year, often in very poor condition. Sydney Dingo Rescue does not support the breeding on dingoes in captivity and all our rescue dingoes are desexed. This is because dingoes cannot legally be released in to the wild and there are more dingoes in captivity than there are homes available. If you require assistance with your own companion dingo or have found a dingo in need of help please message us or email [email protected]

Please note: We will continue advocate for and assist other declared pest species such as foxes, cats and deer as we have done since 2012. We believe these introduced species, whilst they do not belong in the wild in Australia, deserve the same humane care and treatment as all living creatures.

ADOPT DIESEL 🐾

Hi everyone, my name is Diesel and I’m a gentle senior boy looking for a special person to call my own 🧡

I was rescued from euthanasia and sadly, like many older dingoes, I’ve spent a long time waiting while younger animals get chosen first. But those who know me will tell you I have so much love left to give.

I can be a little shy when I first meet new people (especially men), so I’m looking for someone patient who understands that trust takes time. The good news is… I’m pretty easy to win over with kindness, treats, and a few cuddles.

Once you’re my friend, you’re my friend for life. I’m a loyal, affectionate cuddle bug who sometimes forgets I’m not exactly lap-sized! I love giving kisses, climbing up for snuggles, and I’ve even been known to help with hair styling by giving my favourite humans a few enthusiastic licks. Apparently, I make a pretty good dingo hairdresser.

I’m also a very clever boy. I know how to sit, shake, and I’m working hard on perfecting my drop. I walk beautifully on lead, listen well, and rarely pull — making me a lovely walking companion.

I’m great in the car too and will happily jump in and settle down for an adventure.

Because I’m a dingo, I can’t ever be off-lead in unfenced areas (my recall isn’t quite as reliable as my cuddles!). But I love exploring beside my humans, and a long line is a great way to let me sniff and run safely.

At the rescue I share my space with a smaller female dingo mix and I get along well with most dogs after slow introductions. I’d love a home with another friendly dingo or larger dog companion, maybe you could even adopt my best friend Scotty — but I’d also be perfectly happy being your one and only best mate.

I have lived with older children before (8+) and could suit a home with calm, respectful kids who understand dogs and give me time to settle.

Like all dingoes, I’m not suitable to live with cats, birds, livestock, or pocket pets unless completely separate. I also need a secure yard and cannot live in an apartment.

If you think you could give a sweet senior boy the second chance he has been waiting for, please apply 🍀

🐾 ADOPT BUSHY 🐾

Looking for a cuddly companion with plenty of brains, energy and loyalty? Then Bushy might be your perfect match.

Bushy is a sweet, affectionate dingo who absolutely loves people, cuddles and ear rubs. He’s a social boy who enjoys spending time with both his humans and his canine friends, and would love a home with another dog or dingo for company. Better yet, he could be adopted with his best mate Zeus!

At around 20kg, Bushy is an active young dingo who loves adventures, beach trips, toys and playtime. He’s clever, food motivated and eager to learn. He walks well on lead, travels beautifully in the car and is toilet trained, though he may need a quick refresher when settling into a new home.

Bushy can be a little boisterous when he’s excited, so he’d be best suited to a home with children over 10 years old.

🏡 Bushy’s ideal home:
• Another dog or dingo companion
• Secure 1.8m fencing
• No cats, birds, pocket pets or livestock
• No apartment living
• Kids 10+

As with all dingoes, Bushy should remain on lead outside secure fenced areas.

📍 Available to homes in NSW, ACT and VIC
📧 [email protected]

Bushy come to you desexed, vaccinated and microchipped.

If you’re looking for a fun-loving adventure buddy who’ll happily join you on beach trips before curling up for cuddles, Bushy is waiting to meet you.

🐕 A huge thank you to the Lake Burley Griffin Sea Scouts for inviting us along to speak about dingoes at one of their Cubs nights! 🐾

We had such a wonderful evening meeting everyone and sharing more about dingoes, their behaviour, and their important role in Australian ecosystems.

The Cubs worked through our dingo education activity learning about how dingoes fit into the environment, and we also had lots of fun making plaster casts of dingo paws and tracks — so next time they’re out camping or exploring, they’ll know what signs to look for and how to recognise who they might be sharing the landscape with. 🐕

Of course, the highlight of the night (for everyone… we think!) was meeting the dingoes themselves. Our four rescue puppies Liam, Rufus, Olaith and Clover came along for the adventure and absolutely loved it. They were so calm and confident, soaking up all the attention, treats, cuddles and pats from the Cubs. Experiences like this are also wonderful enrichment and socialisation opportunities for young dingoes, helping them grow into confident adults.

Education is such an important part of changing the way people see and understand dingoes. These conversations help the next generation learn respect, empathy and appreciation for the wildlife and ecosystems around them.

Thank you again to the Lake Burley Griffin Sea Scouts for being so welcoming — we loved visiting and hope everyone enjoyed meeting the dingoes as much as they enjoyed meeting you. 💛🐾

🐾 ADOPT ZEUS 🐾

Looking for a cheeky, playful snuggle partner?

Then Zeus might just be the perfect addition to your family.

Zeus and his sister were rescued as orphaned dingo pups from Northern NSW after being found without their mother and handed into a local veterinary clinic near Byron Bay. Because dingoes cannot legally be released back into the wild, Zeus is now searching for a committed family to call his own.

This handsome young man is an absolute clown. You can usually find him chasing, wrestling and rolling around with his best mate Bushy, always looking for fun and adventure. Zeus is incredibly inquisitive and loves exploring the world around him. Bushwalks, new places and exciting smells are right up his alley.

Zeus walks well on lead and enjoys getting out and about, although he can still pull when he gets excited. His new family will need to continue building his manners using positive reinforcement and reward-based training. He is a clever, food-motivated youngster who loves learning and spending time with his people.

One thing Zeus absolutely adores is other dogs. He thrives on canine companionship and must go to a home with another friendly dog or dingo. He is approximately 20kg and is not suitable to live with dogs under 10kg.

Zeus is toilet trained, although he may need a refresher after living in an outdoor shelter environment. He is also learning that car trips can be fun and is making good progress, but his new family should be prepared to continue helping him build confidence.

As with most dingoes, Zeus should never be allowed off lead outside a secure enclosure. While he is intelligent and eager to learn, reliable off-lead recall is generally unrealistic for a dingo and safety must always come first.

Zeus is not suitable to live with cats, pocket pets, birds or livestock. He will need a home with a large, secure yard and is not suited to apartment living.

If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate companion who will keep you laughing every day and happily curl up for a cuddle afterwards, Zeus could be the boy for you.

📍 Adoption requirements:
• Another friendly dog or dingo is required
• Secure fencing and a suitable yard
• No cats, pocket pets, birds or livestock
• No apartment living

📍 Fencing Requirements:
Zeus is a high-content dingo mix. As he is predominantly dingo, we recommend fencing at least 1.8 metres high. Some homes may also require dig-proofing along the base of the fence.

To apply to adopt Zeus, email:
📧 [email protected]

Please remember that dingoes cannot legally be released into the wild, making adoption one of the most important ways you can help rescued dingoes like Zeus find a safe and secure future.

Tongues Out Tuesday 🐕

This week's tongues belong to long-term rescue residents Rogue and Shy!

What's better than one dingo? Two dingoes.

These best friends have now been waiting five years for a home of their own after arriving all the way from Western Australia when their owner was sadly forced to rehome them. Since then, they have become much-loved members of the Sydney Dingo Rescue family, still patiently hoping the right person will come along and give them the forever home they deserve.

Despite being inseparable, they could not be more different.

Shy lives up to her name. She is gentle, thoughtful and cautious, preferring to take her time getting to know new people.

Rogue, on the other hand, is a complete scallywag. He is always first to the gate for ear scratches, first to line up for walks, and can often be heard howling impatiently while waiting for his harness. On walks he proudly struts his stuff, stopping to sniff every tree, leaving his mark wherever possible, and occasionally huffing at some imaginary rival on the breeze just to remind everyone who's boss. Underneath all that confidence though, he's a big softie who loves a cuddle.

Unfortunately, Rogue has had a rough week.
Our handsome 10-year-old suddenly developed a severe limp in one of his back legs and has already undergone x-rays, sedation, splinting and treatment with our wonderful team at Fairfield Road Veterinary Hospital. He went to see the specialists at Sydney Animal Referral Hospital and it was determined he will need a fusion of the joint due to tendon damage and his age. He’s booked in for surgery next week.

Rogue still has so much life left to live. He deserves the chance to stay mobile, comfortable and pain free, and we'd be incredibly grateful for any support.

And if you're looking for two incredible companions, Rogue and Shy are still searching for the home they've been waiting years to find.

Please share their story and help us find both the support Rogue needs now and the forever family they both deserve. ❤️

Ps : photos were taken before Rogue started limping as he is now on crate rest

Rogue needs surgery and we urgently need your help 🖤

Our beautiful almost 11 year old dingo Rogue needs a major surgery on his back leg, and we need to raise around $5,000 to make it happen (we’re still waiting on the final quote).

After so many emergency vet bills recently our funds are empty, but we can’t leave Rogue sore and struggling when there is a surgery that can give him his quality of life back.

To help raise the money for his operation, we are selling little black dingo plush toys, just like Rogue 🖤

Every plush sold helps us get closer to getting Rogue the surgery he needs and getting this special old boy back on all four paws again.

You can order your own little Rogue here:

Rogue saw the specialists at Sydney Animal Referral Hospital at the end of last week after he suddenly started limping badly on one of his back legs. After an exam and further imaging, we now know Rogue has damaged the tendons in his leg.

Because of the extent of the damage, and the fact Rogue is nearly 11 years old, the best option is to fuse the affected joint.

It’s a big surgery. It means plates, screws and several weeks of crate rest while he recovers (which our cheeky, energetic Rogue is definitely not going to be impressed about).

But the good news is that once healed, this surgery has a really good success rate. It will mean Rogue can walk, run, explore and enjoy his senior years without being in pain.

Sadly, black dingoes like Rogue are often the ones who wait the longest.

When it comes to adoptions, sponsorships and fundraising, darker coloured animals are so often overlooked because of stigma and bias around their colour. But black dingoes are beautiful, natural and special. Around 10% of dingoes have a black coat, and Rogue is one of them.

Rogue came to us from Western Australia 5 years ago with his best friend Shy, after his owner was sadly no longer able to keep them.

Since then, Rogue and Shy have been waiting for a home together. In the meantime they’ve become a much loved part of our sanctuary family.

Rogue might have been waiting years for someone to choose him, but he has always been loved. Now we need a little help from our community to get this beautiful old boy comfortable, pain free, and back out adventuring with Shy by his side 🖤
