Faced with death, Roz Hervey taught her family how to live. 🙏

After being diagnosed with motor neurone disease, former dancer and artistic director Roz Hervey knew she had to take back control of her life.

For Roz, knowing she could access voluntary assisted dying (VAD) enabled her to enjoy her final months. She asked her family to “seize the day” with her.

Peter Garrett has spoken to ABC Illawarra Breakfast this morning, ahead of a hearing of the public inquiry into AUKUS being held in Wollongong today.

Mr Garrett is the lead comissioner of the indepedent inquiry which will hear from Illawarra community members and leaders about the submarine agreement today.

He said he expects to hear from people concerned about the possibility of Port Kembla becoming the base for the submarines.

"I think we'll hear from people who have concerns about radioactive waste and nuclear [powered] submarines in the port here, if that should be the decision that's finally taken," he said.

He also responded to criticism from Defence Minister Pat Conroy, who has criticised the inquiry as "anti-AUKUS" and "rigged from the start".

Mr Garrett said the government was invited to participate, and they've heard from speakers across the political spectrum.

"It's a genuine inquiry, it is open to all who want to come and speak to us or ask us about AUKUS," he said.
