Palju õnne, Sydney Eesti Selts Eesti Kodu Linda! 🇪🇪

99 aastat tagasi täna, 9. oktoobril 1927. aastal, sündis Sydney Eesti Selts „Eesti Kodu Linda“.

Sydney eestlaste kogukonnas tegutses tol ajal kaks seltsi – Eesti Kodu ja Linda. 1927. aastal otsustasid need kaks seltsi ühineda ning nii sündis meie tänane Sydney Eesti Selts Eesti Kodu Linda.

Nimi ise kannab endas väikest tükikest meie ajaloost – see meenutab kahte seltsi, kelle ühinemisest sai alguse organisatsioon, mis on nüüdseks hoidnud Sydney eestlaskonda koos juba 99 aastat.

Selle aja jooksul on siin kasvanud üles mitu põlvkonda eestlasi. On peetud pidusid ja kontserte, õpetatud eesti keelt, tantsitud rahvatantsu, lauldud koorides, tähistatud Eesti tähtpäevi ning hoitud elus meie keelt, kultuuri ja traditsioone.

Järgmisel aastal tähistame juba Sydney Eesti Seltsi 100. sünnipäeva – ja see saab olema tõeliselt eriline aasta, sest samal ajal toimuvad Sydneys ka 30. Eesti Päevad Austraalias.

99 aastat ajalugu.
99 aastat eestlust Sydneys.
Ja nüüd sammume koos 100. aasta poole! 💙🖤🤍

Palju õnne, Sydney Eesti Selts Meie Kodu Linda!

Happy birthday, Sydney Estonian Society "Eesti Kodu Linda!" 🇪🇪

99 years ago today, on 9 October 1927, the Sydney Estonian Society “Eesti Kodu Linda” was founded.

At the time, two societies were active in Sydney’s Estonian community – Eesti Kodu and Linda. In 1927, they decided to merge, creating the Sydney Estonian Society Eesti Kodu Linda we know today.

The name itself carries a little piece of our history – a reminder of the two societies whose merger established an organisation that has now brought Sydney’s Estonian community together for 99 years.

Over that time, several generations of Estonians have grown up here. We have held celebrations and concerts, taught Estonian, danced folk dances, sung in choirs, marked Estonia’s national occasions, and kept our language, culture and traditions alive.

Next year, we will celebrate the Sydney Estonian Society’s 100th birthday – and it will be a truly special year, as Sydney will also host the 30th Estonian Festival in Australia.

99 years of history.
99 years of Estonian heritage in Sydney.
And now, together, we step towards our 100th year! 💙🖤🤍

Happy birthday, Sydney Estonian Society Eesti Kodu Linda!

We invite you all to join us in celebrating the Sydney Estonian Society’s 100th birthday from 8–11 April 2027, at the Estonian Festival in Sydney!

Let’s come together to celebrate our shared history, thank those who have sustained our Society through the decades, and look towards the future together. 💙🖤🤍

With best wishes from the Committee,
Ave, Martin, Giles, Ximonie, Mari, Taimi, Sophie, Siiri and Jaak
