In a province where opportunity is scarce and hardship is generational, consistent care is not a luxury - it is everything.

Shamima has lost both her mother and her father. Her father passed when she was just one. Her mother, in March 2025.

Losses no child should carry - yet Shamima still finds joy in the simplest things.

Today, she lives with her aunt and older sister in Ghana, in a home built on love. "It has been hard, but we are trying every day to give them a safe home and a happy childhood" her aunt shared.

Since 2023, Al-Ayn has supported Shamima and her family - with food, clothing, and support towards healthcare and schooling - so she can focus on learning, playing, and dreaming of the future she wants.

This Safar, you can be a lifeline for children like Shamima. Sponsor a child at www.al-ayn.org.au/muharram

When a father is no longer there, it's often the mother who carries everything - the home, the hope, the future. At Al-Ayn, we believe supporting an orphaned child means supporting widowed mothers too.

In Iraq, that means vocational training so mothers can build independence. In Ghana, it means support with legal services to secure what's rightfully theirs. In Afghanistan, it means access to healthcare for mothers who have carried so much alone. Because a child thrives when the person holding them up is supported too.

Behind every number is a name. A face. A child who deserves more than survival - who deserves a future.

More than 6,000 orphaned children in Afghanistan are already under Al-Ayn's care.

They receive support. They are known to us. But they are waiting for something more - a private sponsor.

A sponsorship of $110 a month covers the essential needs of a child, but also reassures them that they are seen and remembered. This kind of consistent care changes the course of a child's life.

Did you know there are over 20,000 orphaned children currently waiting to be sponsored?

Each one is waiting not just for support, but for consistency - for someone who stays. Your sponsorship ensures a child receives uninterrupted care: education, healthcare, welfare, and emotional support that continues, year after year, until they no longer need it.

In Najaf, a city of scholars, of pilgrims, of spiritual history - 7,343 orphaned children are growing up today.

Al-Ayn has walked alongside families here for over two decades. Through education. Through healthcare. Through the ordinary moments that shape an extraordinary life.

This is what long-term care looks like. Not a single intervention - a commitment, renewed every year.
