Transforming Justice Australia

Transforming Justice Australia We provide community based restorative justice responses to sexual abuse and related harm in Australia. Our values are guided by the following principles:
1.

We work with people harmed, people responsible, their family and their community. Individuals and communities are harmed by sexual violence and have needs that should be addressed.
2. Those responsible for causing harm have obligations, needs, and must be accountable.
3. To advance research in survivor-led restorative practices, we adopt inclusive and collaborative processes, locally and internat

ionally.
4. We respect the needs and voices of individuals and communities harmed by sexual violence and will be guided by evidence and emerging practices in the development of restorative practices.
5. Our work should do no further harm.
6. Our work must adopt positive, trauma-informed and domestic violence informed approaches at all times. Transforming Justice Australia is auspiced by Community Restorative Centre

✨ Spotlight Speakers: Thea Deakin‑Greenwood & Renee Lees ✨

Join us for Balance the Scales: Women’s Access to Justice, a warm and conversational FEMFEST workshop exploring how inclusion, exclusion and marginalisation shape women’s experiences with justice in our local community.

This session features two incredible advocates:

✨Thea Deakin‑Greenwood from Transforming Justice Australia
A practitioner and advocate dedicated to reshaping justice systems through trauma‑informed, community‑centred approaches.

✨Renee Lees from Central Tablelands and Blue Mountains Community Legal Centre
A passionate community lawyer working alongside local women to push for fair, accessible and equitable legal pathways.

Together, alongside a community voice, they will reflect on what justice looks like in practice, why so many barriers persist and why collective action still matters in building fairer systems for all.

Grab a spot for this free workshop by visiting www.bmwhrc.org/events. It's sure to be a thoughtful and empowering conversation in honour of International Women’s Day. 💜✨

See you on March 8th!

All victim survivors of sexual harm should have access to community-based restorative responses as part of a comprehensive justice system.

There is growing evidence that these approaches can meet the justice needs of people who have experienced harm, while also supporting meaningful accountability and behaviour change.

There is also broad stakeholder support. Recommendations to increase access to restorative responses have been made by the Australian Law Reform Commission, the Australian Human Rights Commission, and the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs References Committee, among many others.

We are calling for:
✔ Resourcing to support existing community-based restorative responses to sexual harm for survivors, people responsible, impacted others, families and communities
✔ Dedicated and sustainable funding for community organisations
✔ Increased access so victim survivors can choose the justice pathway that is meaningful to them

Expanding and transforming justice options means listening to people harmed, and asking what justice means to them. This will better meet the needs of victim survivors, enable pathways to support for people to engage with accountability, safer families and communities.
