Sadly another Koala lost last week on Heathcote Road in Holsworthy, Liverpool LGA.

Our corridor mapping once again proving accurate, with the Koala struck in an identified pinch point between habitat patches that form a Koala corridor.

Several koalas were also killed in this same location last year. It is a hot spot that needs to be addressed by Transport for NSW & Jenny Aitchison MP . cc: Tina Ayyad - Member for Holsworthy Liverpool City Council Australia

Sadly another 2 Koalas lost, a mum and joey, killed by vehicle strike in Kentlyn in Campbelltown LGA this weekend.

The location is right in the middle of an area we identified for restoration in our Koala Corridor Mapping project as a link from the Georges River National Park to Smiths Creek Reserve.

Thanks as always to the selfless volunteers who attended.

“There is a correlation between reducing access to several hundred hectares of koala habitat in one direction and a rise in koalas struck on new roads in the other. It is a new problem, and it’s something the NSW government is going to have to address.” said Stephanie Carrick, Sydney Basin Koala Network.

We spoke to Yahoo News Australia about our analysis of vehicle strike in 2025 showing an alarming rise in koalas being struck on new roads in South West Sydney, with a shifting issue emerging since fencing has been erected on Appin Road.

Another Koala killed on Princes Highway this week near Waterfall in the Sutherland Shire, headed for the Royal National Park.

This is next to the area we have mapped as an important connection between Heathcote and Royal National Parks, urging Sutherland Shire Council and Transport for NSW to commit to a creating a safe passage for Koalas in our submission to the Sutherland Shire Koala Plan of Management.

Sadly another koala killed at Mallaty Creek, where we have been pleading for an underpass for years. Penny Sharpe MLC Paul Scully MP

A koala was killed on Appin Road near Mallaty Creek this Anzac Day evening, in an area identified as a critical wildlife corridor. Plans for a dedicated overpass or underpass at this location have been abandoned.

A young learner driver and his mother were returning home from work when the koala ran onto the road and was struck. The animal died on impact. The occupants stopped immediately, removed the animal from the road, and contacted local wildlife rescuer Ricardo .

This incident highlights the consequences of fragmented planning. Housing development is expanding into koala habitat without adequate mitigation. Existing exclusion fencing terminates near this location, funneling animals onto an unlit, high-speed road with no safe crossing point.

We are calling for urgent installation of wildlife infrastructure, lighting, and extended fencing to prevent further deaths in this known corridor.

Ricardo attended the rescue and is now handed the body over to a Wires carer .
