💜 Kindness Inspires Kindness 🧡

This is exactly how kindness spread. 💜

Our Earth Angel volunteer Kate recently dropped off 20 Hygine packs made by her friend Nadine.

Nadine had seen the work Kate was doing volunteering with AOK and wanted to find her own way to help. So she put together these thoughtful little packs filled with practical hygiene items for our homeless community.

It might seem like a small gesture but when you’re sleeping rough having your own shampoo, soap and basic toiletries can mean so much. They are useful, they are personal and most importantly they remind someone that another person thought about them.

These are things that keep a community connected. One person sees someone else heling and thinks “I can do something to”

And they do 💜🧡

💜 THE RIPPLE EFFECT OF KINDNESS 🧡

The beautiful Amcha family wanted to support AOK and our homeless community. With two working parents and a busy young family, volunteering isn’t always possible — so they found their own way to help.

They researched and sourced Backpack Beds themselves and have incredibly generously donated 32 Backpack Beds for us to give directly to people sleeping rough.

This is the ripple effect of kindness.

One family decides to help. Their kindness reaches us. We carry it forward to 32 people and from there the ripple continues.

Because changing one life at a time with kindness has never been about one person or one organisation doing everything. It’s about each of us doing what we can, kindness passing from one person to another, and a community looking after each other.

To the Amcha family — thank you for starting this beautiful ripple. 😇💜🧡

Heavy lifting help needed TOMORROW (Sunday) – Charity warehouse move

We’re Acts of Kindness Community Outreach (AOK), a small local charity, and we need some strong, capable people to help us move the remaining heavy items out of our warehouse in Mona Vale.

Tomorrow – Sunday 27 September
Approx. 10am–1pm – timing is flexible
Mona Vale → Warriewood

We need help with:
• Lifting and carrying heavy/bulky items
• Loading items into Truck
• Unloading at our space in Warriewood
• Helping us clear the remaining larger items from the warehouse

This is genuinely heavy lifting, so please only respond if you’re physically capable and comfortable moving heavy items safely.

We’ll be there helping and coordinating everything. We just need some extra muscle to get the final heavy items out!

As we’re a small registered charity supporting people experiencing homelessness and hardship, we’d also be incredibly grateful if you’re able to offer us volunteer time or charity/community rate.

💜 WELCOME TO THE AOK FAMILY, GEORGE ELLIS 🧡

Some announcements mean a little more than others.

Today, we are incredibly proud and personally, I am incredibly humbled to announce George Ellis as an official Ambassador for Acts of Kindness Community Outreach.

For those who know George through the world of music, you’ll know just how extraordinary his career has been.

George conducted the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Opening Ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, has conducted major orchestras in Australia and internationally, worked alongside artists including Lou Reed and Hans Zimmer, and received an ARIA Award nomination for Mimi’s Symphony with Justine Clarke.

An extraordinary career.

But that’s not why we asked George to become an AOK Ambassador.

We asked because of the human being he is.

Week after week, George turns up to service and rolls up his sleeves.

No stage. No orchestra. No applause.

Just George.

Talking. Listening. Laughing. Remembering names. Making people feel like they matter.

And perhaps the most beautiful thing about him is this:

George gives exactly the same George to everybody.

Whether he’s standing in front of an orchestra, beside another volunteer or across the table from someone experiencing homelessness, there is no hierarchy in his kindness.

He sees the human being first.

There are some people who carry a light with them wherever they go. It’s difficult to explain but you know it when you encounter it.

George is one of those people 💖

You can hear it in his music but more importantly, you see it in the way he moves through the world and treats people.

That’s what an AOK Ambassador should be! Not someone who simply lends their name but someone who already lives what we stand for.

George has been doing exactly that long before there was ever a title attached to it.

Thank you George for showing up, believing in what we do and bringing your heart and your light into our community.

We couldn’t think of a more beautiful human being to stand beside AOK.

Every Wednesday night our AOK team serves a warm meal to our homeless street family in Woolloomooloo.

This week we’d love to give them a pizza night — something a little special that brings smiles, comfort, and a sense of normality for people doing it tough 💞

✨ 20,640+ meals rescued from Soul Origin Warriewood
✨ 9,820+ meals rescued from Chargrill Charlies

✨ Thousands of hampers delivered to families and communities across the Northern Beaches and Sydney

Nearly 100,000 home-cooked meals. 💗

But the number we’re proudest of isn’t one we can count.

It’s the conversations. The friendships. The names remembered. The people who knew someone would be there for them again next week.

There is no big machine behind AOK.

There is an extraordinary community of volunteers who cook, collect, rescue, pack, drive, serve, listen, care and keep showing up. 😇

Our volunteers are the heart of AOK. Every one of those numbers exists because somebody chose to give their time to another human being.

Six years of people helping people.
Six years of showing up.

Nearly 100,000 home-cooked meals — but for us, it has never really been about the number.

It has always been about the person standing in front of us.

And we’re only just getting started. 💖

Accomplishments tell people what you did. The way you made them feel tells them who you were. Years later, people may forget the title you held, the milestone you reached, how successful you became, or how impressive something looked from the outside. What tends to stay with them is whether they felt respected around you, whether you made room for them, whether you listened, whether you were kind when there was nothing to gain from being kind.

Ambition matters. Building a life you are proud of matters. But none of it requires becoming careless with people along the way. Success and character are not competing goals. If anything, what you accomplish becomes more meaningful when the person you became while accomplishing it is someone others were grateful to know.

Today is R U OK? Day

And maybe this is an unpopular thing to say but sometimes I wonder if we’ve become too focused on asking the question and forgotten what we’re supposed to do with the answer.

“Are you OK?”

“No, actually. I’m not.”

And then what?

Too often we’re already thinking about what to say next. How to make them feel better. How to fix it. What advice to give or how quickly we can move the conversation somewhere more comfortable.

But sometimes people don’t need you to fix anything.

They need you to listen.

And they need their feelings to be heard and validated.

You may not agree with how someone feels. You may not understand why they feel that way. You may see the situation completely differently.

But their feelings are still real to them.

Dismissing those feelings, minimising them or telling someone they “shouldn’t” feel that way doesn’t make the feelings disappear.

And when someone is overwhelmed, hurt, frightened, angry or feeling hopeless, those emotions can influence the choices they make.

Sometimes simply having another human being genuinely listen — without judgement, correction or trying to fix everything — can change what happens next.

Not while checking your phone.
Not while preparing your response.
Not while searching for a solution to a problem they never asked you to solve.

Just sit with them.

Let them talk.
Let there be silence.
Let their answer be messy, uncomfortable or difficult.

Asking “Are you OK?” shouldn’t be something we do so we can feel like we’ve done our part.

If you ask the question, be prepared to hear the answer.

And if the answer is “No” — perhaps the most powerful thing you can say is:

“I’m here. Tell me.”

Because sometimes kindness isn’t fixing someone’s problems.

Sometimes it’s simply making sure they don’t have to carry them alone.
