The NSW Squash Junior State Championships in Bega wound up on Sunday and it was a great weekend for the JETS Squash players, winning 4 titles in the under 11 and 13s boys and girls plus 2 runner ups and a 3rd.

Nathan and Ruisha were very impressive in their under 13 wins, just recently moving up an age group but were still way too good.

Owen and Elka both winning their 1st state title in under 11s, a fantastic achievement by both these promising youngsters.

JETS Squash had 19 players at the event with most performing well.
Stanley was runner up in the under 19 boys in a tough 5 set match vs Kasper, Benny B was runner up to Naveen in the under 15 boys and Annette C was 3rd in the under 15 girls.

Other notable efforts were Sean S, who played very well to finish 4th in the 17 boys, Keiran W who was 5th in under 17 boys after a poor 1st match but he really played well after that.

A lot of our younger players played in their 1st NSW Champs and learnt a lot from the experience, but mostly had a great time.

Most JETS players finished inside the top 8 placings which shows the depth within the program.

From the NSW Champs the NSW state Junior team was also chosen, with 9 JETS players being selected.

Girls
Fatimah K under 19s
Niah L-W under 17s
Annette C under 15s
Khadijah K under 15s
Ruisha C under 13s

Boys
Stanley C under 19s
Keiran W under 17s
Ben B under 15s
Nathan L under 13s

The NSW state team has a total of 24 players, with JETS having more than a 1/3 of the total team, and with another 7 players from Thornleigh making the team, it demonstrates the strength that both programs have within their ranks.

It was a long trip to and from Bega for all players, parents and coaches but the results, the friendships made, and the fun all players had makes it well worthwhile.

Thanks to The Khans for hosting the families for dinner on Saturday night, a fun evening for all.

The next JETS event is on the 9th August, so get your entries in asap - https://www.revolutionise.com.au/jetssquash/events/369354

This Refugee Week, JETS Squash is proud to celebrate the strength, resilience and achievements of people from refugee backgrounds.

Through our free Squash Girls Can program, migrant and refugee girls come together each week for squash, homework support, friendship and fun. The program is run by dedicated volunteers who believe every young person deserves the opportunity to belong, thrive and reach their potential.

What happens on court is about much more than sport. It is about building confidence, creating connections, supporting education and helping young people feel at home in their new community. Many of the girls arrive as strangers and leave as teammates and friends.

To all the girls, families, volunteers and supporters who make this program possible: thank you. We are proud to stand with refugee and migrant communities, not just during Refugee Week, but every week of the year.

We are incredibly excited and honoured that both Geoff Davenport and JETS Squash Club have been named finalists in the 2026 Sport NSW Community Sports Awards.

Geoff has been selected as a finalist for Community Coach of the Year and JETS Squash Club is a finalist for Community Club of the Year.

These nominations are wonderful recognition for squash and for the many people who have contributed to growing our sport at the grassroots level. From our youngest minis players picking up a racquet for the first time, through to juniors representing NSW and Australia, it has been a privilege to be part of so many squash journeys.

For Geoff, this recognition reflects decades of dedication to coaching, mentoring and developing players. For JETS Squash, it recognises the efforts of our coaches, volunteers, parents, players and supporters who help make our programs possible. Whether it is running tournaments, coaching sessions, supporting junior development, or helping deliver initiatives such as Squash Girls Can, this recognition belongs to all of you.

The winners will be announced at the Sport NSW Community Sports Awards presentation on 29th June at Bankstown Sports Club.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. We are grateful for the opportunity to help more people discover squash and to be part of such a wonderful community.
