Neurological Alliance Australia is deeply saddened by the passing of Neale Daniher AO. Neale courageously shared his MND journey with Australians and people around the world. His determination to defeat the Beast and raise vital funds for MND research and care was profoundly selfless. As Neale himself acknowledged, his efforts may not have changed his own outcome, but they will help others diagnosed with this cruel disease in the future.
Neale was an inspiration to many across the Alliance and beyond.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at Fight MND. Vale Neale.

It was an honour to attend the formal launch of the Klim Foundation at the North Sydney Olympic Pool today and spend a bit of time with Founder and Olympic swimming legend Michael Klim and Board Chair Paul Bird. It was also a pleasure to meet with another NAA member, the Brain Foundation and to chat with their CEO Beata Roman about the NAA’s priorities for the next three years, which will also be informed by the soon-to-close NAA Neuro Survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2DR8TQ6.

This week is Brain Awareness Week. Brain conditions can affect anyone, at any age, which is why awareness, early understanding and prevention are so important. The more we know, the sooner we can recognise changes, reduce risks where possible, and support each other.

One simple yet powerful way to support brain health is physical activity. Research shows it can:
• reduce the risk of cognitive decline and dementia
• help manage symptoms of neurological conditions and progression-related disability
• support mental health, social connection and independence
• strengthen brain resilience.

We have called on the Australian Government to invest in making physical activity a routine part of Australia’s brain health and neurological agenda. See our Pre-Budget submission: https://neurologicalalliance.org.au/wp-content/uploads/Neurological-Alliance-Australia-Pre-Budget-2026-2027-Supplementary-Submission-January-2026.pdf.

We are supporting Brain Awareness Week - an opportunity to highlight why brain health matters, and how brain diseases, disorders and injuries affect millions of Australians.
It is also timely to call on the Australian Government to invest in its 2026-2027 Budget to develop a National Action Plan for Neurological Conditions (https://neurologicalalliance.org.au/wp-content/uploads/Neurological-Alliance-Australia-Pre-Budget-Submission-2026-2027.pdf) .
Without a coordinated national strategy, Australia is missing opportunities to improve outcomes for people living with neurological conditions, ease pressure on our health system and reduce costs.
It’s time to make brain health a national priority.
