The 2027 ADS-Skip Martin Early Career Fellowship amount is $80,000 for one year plus a travel/conference allowance of up to $5,000.

Congratulations Dr Kylie Jevon — 2026 Helen Thomas Early Career Fellowship!

The Australian Diabetes Society, Breakthrough T1D, Diabetes Victoria, and St Vincent's Institute of Medical Research (SVI) are thrilled to announce Dr Kylie Jevon as the inaugural recipient of the 2026 ADS/Breakthrough T1D/Diabetes Victoria/SVI Helen Thomas Early Career Fellowship in Type 1 Diabetes!

This prestigious fellowship honours the legacy of Professor Helen Thomas (1967–2024) — a trailblazing diabetes researcher who dedicated over 30 years to understanding how beta cells are destroyed in type 1 diabetes.

Dr Jevon's research project, "Harnessing T Cell Exhaustion to Treat Type 1 Diabetes", aims to uncover why immune cells persist in attacking insulin-producing beta cells — and how we might stop them. A truly exciting step forward for T1D research. 🔬

Congratulations to Professor Josephine Forbes — a 2026 WIELD Trailblazer!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Professor Josephine Forbes, who has been recognised as a Women Inspiring and Elevating Leadership in Diabetes (WIELD) Trailblazer for 2026 — a prestigious global award honouring inspiring leaders in diabetes.

Prof Forbes leads the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Group at Mater Research, is an NHMRC Principal Investigator with over 200 publications, and currently serves as President of the Australian Diabetes Society. She is also spearheading the National Diabetes Research Strategy on behalf of the entire diabetes community — a testament to her tireless commitment to advancing diabetes care and research.

We can think of no more worthy recipient of this honour. 💙

The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and the Australian Diabetes Society (ADS) invite applications for the 2027 RACP Australian Diabetes Society Research Establishment Fellowship from Australian Fellows or Advanced Trainees of the RACP’s Divisions, Faculties and Chapters, who are members of the ADS. The purpose is to assist a current or future RACP Fellow in establishing a career in diabetes research. The fellowship value is up to $50,000 for one year.

Deadline Extended: Apply for the 2026 ADS Australasian Diabetes Congress Travel Grants by 30th June!

This year a number of ADS Travel Grants will be awarded to junior investigators who have an abstract accepted for presentation at the 2026 Australasian Diabetes Congress, which is being held as a joint event with the biennial International Diabetes Federation Western Pacific Region Congress and the 2026 Metabolic Diseases conference, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in VIC from Tuesday 18th to Friday 21st August 2026. Submit your application today!

The Australian Diabetes Society (ADS) Council is pleased to announce a call for applications for the 2026 ADS Diabetes Research Seed Grants. This is a funding opportunity first introduced by the ADS last year. The purpose of the grants is to provide seed funds for new projects or early stage research projects. Early/Mid Career Researchers (EMCRs) are highly encouraged to apply for these grants. Four grants will be offered and up to the value of A$20,000 each. Applications in all areas of diabetes research will be considered.

The Australian Diabetes Society (ADS), together with the Lindsey Baudinet Family, is pleased to invite applications for the 2026 ADS Lindsey Baudinet Rising Star Award in Type 1 Diabetes Research. The purpose of the award is to support eligible early-career researchers to pursue research in type 1 diabetes and its complications. The award is $30,000 for one year.

A significant step forward for diabetes care in Australia!

The Australian Diabetes Society (ADS and its divisions NADC and DFA), Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA), Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society (ADIPS), and the Australian and New Zealand Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (ANZSPED) have welcomed the Australian Government’s response to the Parliamentary Inquiry into Diabetes. The government has supported nine of the 23 recommendations in principle, including initiatives to improve equitable access to diabetes care, strengthen the diabetes health workforce, enhance public awareness, expand access to medicines and improve data and research coordination.
