The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) represents workers in a wide range of industries. These include the Federal and ACT and NT public sectors, telecommunications, call centres, employment services, commercial broadcasting, the aviation industry and science and research. Our union works collectively to ensure workers are safe at work; have fair rights, pay and conditions; and a strong voic

e at work. We know strong union workplaces deliver higher quality public services, a fairer society, and a better deal for workers. As part of the broad labour movement, we act with integrity and stand in solidarity to support progressive social change and environmental justice.

It seems the Coalition didn't learn their lesson from the last election - Australians want a government that invests in stronger public services, not one that slashes and burns the services they rely on.

UNION WIN 📢
CPSU advocacy means ABC employees will be receiving almost a million dollars in backpay. After CPSU members raised concerns about underpayments of their entitlements while on call, the CPSU raised the issue and pushed the ABC to investigate. The ABC has now confirmed they failed to pay overtime and other entitlements to 261 current and former employees between 2017 and 2023.
This is a huge win for these staff, with some individuals getting up to $40,000 in backpay.

The Federal Government says 'quality services are essential to liveable and sustainable regional communities' - yet they continue to close local electoral commission offices. Make it make sense 🤔

CPSU organisers around the country have been meeting with members of the National Marine Unit to hear directly about the issues that matter to them as service-wide bargaining continues. As the union representing Australian Border Force workforce, we will always listen, respond and advocate for members’ needs and workplace priorities. We will continue to fight for secure public sector jobs because we know when trained public sector workers are forced to operate alongside contractors, our capacity to protect Australia’s borders and seas is weakened. The government must stop the outsourcing of these critical roles and invest taxpayer dollars where they belong — in building a strong and skilled public sector workforce that keeps Australians safe.

Today is Equal Pay Day. While the APS pay gap is narrowing, we still have work to do.
In the last round of bargaining, CPSU members secured groundbreaking flexible work rights, improvements to parental leave and carers' leave, and other rights that have helped close the gender pay gap.
In this round of bargaining, we're pushing for more. If you want to get involved and help win better rights and conditions for everyone across the APS, join now.
