The Australia Bangladesh Business Forum extends its deepest condolences on the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), who passed away this morning at the age of 80 in Dhaka.

As Bangladesh’s first female Prime Minister, Khaleda Zia played a pivotal role in the nation’s democratic journey. Her leadership spanned decades, during which she championed economic reforms, advocated for women’s empowerment, and worked to strengthen Bangladesh’s international ties.

The ABBF acknowledges her contributions to Bangladesh’s development and the business landscape. We stand in solidarity with the people of Bangladesh, the Bangladeshi diaspora in Australia, and all who mourn her loss.

We join the call for prayers and reflection during this period of national mourning. May her legacy continue to inspire.
