The world came to the Illawarra to see what climate action looks like in practice. And it turns out, we’re doing some pretty exciting things right here at home. ⚡

Last week, around 50 climate and industry leaders from across the globe visited Bulli Surf Club to learn about Electrify 2515 - Australia’s first community electrification pilot - and hear how Rewiring Australia is helping households make the switch to electric homes.

They heard from our CEO Francis Vierboom about the vision behind the project, and from local homeowner Billy Marshall, who shared his family’s electrification journey, including the health benefits for his young family and the bill savings they’re seeing by going electric.

They also heard from Alison Byrnes MP about the Illawarra’s growing reputation as a hotspot for innovative clean energy projects.

The best part? Delegates left inspired with many saying they want to explore similar projects in their own countries and collaborate into the future.

There’s already a growing “rewiring” family around the world - Rewiring Australia, Rewiring America, Rewiring Taiwan and Rewiring Aotearoa are all showing what’s possible.

One thing you can do this school holidays is to help make NSW rentals safer.
We’re supporting our friends at Parents for Climate to hear from renting families across NSW about their experiences living in rental homes.
Too many rental homes are still too hot in summer, too cold in winter, or affected by damp and mould. Renters often face higher energy bills, while having limited ability to make improvements like better insulation, efficient appliances or solar.
Parents for Climate are gathering real stories to help show why healthier, safer and more comfortable rental homes matter - especially as our climate changes.

South Australia’s decision to delay national gas connection rules leaves existing households bearing the financial burden.
While NSW, ACT, QLD, and VIC today are ensuring new gas connections pay their own way upfront, SA has deferred the change. The result? Existing SA gas consumers risk swallowing up to $155 million in network costs to subsidise new connections - adding around $4,500 per new home onto existing gas bills.
At a time when families are facing severe cost-of-living pressures, South Australians shouldn't be forced to subsidise legacy fossil fuel infrastructure.
Fairer rules encourage builders to choose efficient, all-electric appliances from day one, lowering running costs for new buyers and protecting existing consumers. Read our response in the comment below and let us know what you think.

More than 400 Australians told us what it’s really like to own a home battery - why they got one, how they use it, and what they think about Virtual Power Plants (VPPs).
We found battery owners are overwhelmingly happy with their batteries.
But many people aren’t ready to hand over control of their battery to a VPP.

A story of despair and hope? That was one of the biggest takeaways from Rewiring's Kristen McDonald after taking part in New York Climate Week.

There’s no denying the challenges ahead, from growing concerns about the rapid expansion of data centres to the frustration many feel about the pace of change.

But across the US, incredible work is unfolding, with communities, state governments and organisations pushing forward with practical climate solutions.

And everyone was inspired by the momentum in Australia - from zero-interest loan programs helping households making the switch to electric homes, to thousands of batteries being installed every week. Australians really are killing it.
