This conversation explores how childhood trauma can sometimes influence adult behaviour. When a child grows up in a home where they fear one parent, they may struggle to process those experiences.

In some cases, that unresolved fear and anger can later be displaced onto the other parent—often the mother—because she may be perceived as the safer or more accessible target for blame.

While this can help explain certain patterns of behaviour, it does not excuse abuse or violence. Every adult is responsible for the choices they make and can seek support to heal from their past. 💜

🚩🚩 Abuse is NOT a two-way street.

Relationships require two people. Abuse only requires one person to choose power, control, intimidation, or violence.

Disagreements happen in healthy relationships. Abuse is a deliberate pattern of behaviour used to dominate another person. It is never caused by the victim's words, emotions, or reactions.

Yes, men can also experience abuse, and every victim deserves to be heard, believed, and supported. However acknowledging that does
not change the reality that women are disproportionately affected by domestic and family violence.

This is not about feminism. It is about humanity, accountability, and safety.

Let's stop asking, "What did they do?" and start asking, "Why did the abuser choose violence?"

Abuse is a choice.
Safety is a right.
Accountability matters.

🌿 Patriarchal Women

Patriarchy isn't upheld by men alone. It is also sustained when women defend abuse, blame victims, silence survivors, or protect culture, faith, family, or reputation over someone's safety.

When we tell women to "just endure," "keep the family together," or "don't shame the family,"
we are protecting the system—not the victim.

Many patriarchal women were raised with these beliefs. But understanding where they came from doesn't mean we should continue passing them on.

⚠️ Abuse is never tradition.
⚠️ Control is never love.
⚠️ Silence is never protection.

It takes courageous men **and** courageous women to break the cycle.

✴️ Protect people, not patriarchy.
✴️ Believe victims.
✴️ Hold abusers accountable.

🐚 Cultural strength is not measured by how well we protect harmful traditions—it is measured by how courageously we protect one another.

Abuse is NOT a one-off incident.

It is a pattern of behaviour designed to gain and maintain power and control.

It follows a cycle—tension builds, abuse occurs, apologies or promises may follow, then comes a period of calm before the cycle begins again.

The incident is what people see. The pattern is what victims live.

Recognising the pattern is the first step to breaking the cycle.

It often sounds like:
"I didn't do that." (Deny)
"You're the problem." (Attack)
"Look what you made me do."
(Reverse Victim and Offender)

A constant blaming culture is often a red flag. When someone repeatedly refuses accountability and instead blames, shames, or guilts you for their behaviour, it's not healthy communication—it's manipulation.

Recognise the pattern.
Accountability builds healthy relationships.
Blame destroys them.
