A focus on you FOCUS Connect is a not-for-profit organisation that has been providing practical help and support services to culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) families in Macarthur, Sydney, for over four decades. Our mission is to empower residents to lead a quality, independent life within their own homes and communities. Below are the programs and services we provide to the community:

Approved for Support at Home but still waiting for funding? You're not alone — as at 30 June 2026, almost 107,000 people were in the same position.

Your wait depends on your priority category:
🔹 Urgent — within 1 month
🔹 High — about 1 month
🔹 Medium — 5–6 months
🔹 Standard — 7–8 months

While you wait, you don't have to put everything on hold. You can start researching providers, think through what support matters most, and keep My Aged Care updated if your circumstances change.

Thursday, 1 October, is International Day of Older Persons.

In 1974, roughly 1 in 18 people worldwide were aged 65 or older. By 2024, that had almost doubled to 1 in 10. By 2074, it's set to double again, to 1 in 5. The world is ageing faster than most people realise.

This year's UN theme, "The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives," asks whether our health, community and support systems are ready for that shift.

At FOCUS Connect, we see this every day. Supporting older people well isn't just about adding years, it's about adding life to those years.

Great news for families in Cabramatta.

FOCUS Connect has just opened a new Multicultural Group in the area. Every week, the group gets together for cooking, art and craft, special events, outings and shopping trips, building real friendships in a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment where everyone belongs.

Whether you're sharing your own culture or discovering someone else's, it's all about connection: conversation, shared experiences, and genuine friendship.

There are several ways to join, depending on your circumstances:

✅ Support at Home
✅ Self-funded attendance
✅ Brokered support arrangements

If you're on CHSP, or applying for it, here's what you need to know.

The government has confirmed the Commonwealth Home Support Programme will continue as its own standalone program until at least 30 June 2029. The earlier plan to fold CHSP into Support at Home has been scrapped, following pressure from a Senate inquiry and concerns raised across the aged care sector.

If you're already receiving CHSP services:
✅ Nothing changes. Your services, contribution amounts and provider arrangements continue as they are.
✅ You do not need to reapply or do anything differently.

If you're applying for CHSP:
✅ CHSP remains open and available as a genuine, standalone entry-level program, not a temporary option that's about to disappear.
✅ You can apply with confidence that your services won't be disrupted by a transition to Support at Home any time soon.
✅ The government will consult separately with providers and older Australians on CHSP's future, rather than setting a fixed changeover date.

CHSP continues to offer entry-level support such as domestic assistance, personal care, transport and social support, helping you or a loved one stay safe and independent at home.

If you have questions about your current CHSP services, our team can talk you through what to expect. And if you're eligible for CHSP, you can still apply, or continue with an application already underway, with confidence that the program isn't going anywhere.

An important update for families supporting a loved one with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

The Australian Government has changed the Aged Care Rules so that older people with MND now receive urgent priority under Support at Home. In practice, this means:

🔹 Full ongoing funding is generally released within 1 month of approval
🔹 Immediate priority access to Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) funding
🔹 No reassessment needed if MND was recorded at your last aged care assessment

If you're not sure whether an MND diagnosis was recorded during assessment, contact your assessment organisation or My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to check.
