For Parents & Carers of LGBTIQA+ Young People Online Community Workshop with Twenty10
This is an interactive online training workshop for families, parents & carers who are supporting LGBTIQA+ young people.
In this training, we will share foundational knowledge about LGBTIQA+ communities, with an emphasis on gender diversity, the experiences of LGBTIQA+ young people at home and school in Australia, and tangible and practical ways to affirm and support LGBTIQA+ young people who might be exploring or affirming their identities. This workshop will be facilitated on Zoom.
This session is for anyone who would like to learn more about how they can support LGBTIQA+ people close to them, as well as those who are supporting families, parents and carers of LGBTIQA+ young people.
Topics:
Supporting parents with their role and LGBTIQA+ allyship
Understanding the realities for LGBTIQA+ young people
Practical tools: language, resources and support options
Learning objectives:
Identify your own parenting style and reflect on your role using allyship and parenting frameworks, including recognising the significance of your role as allies to LGBTIQA+ young people
Deepen your understanding of the experiences and needs of LGBTIQA+ young people in the home, school and accessing services in Australia
Learn practical skills to use as a parent including affirming language, regulating emotions, building a community and advocating for your child at school
