I'm having trouble getting the words to describe last night's kitchen or where to start to explain the evening. Maybe 'kind' is the best word.
I think I'll just start by saying that one of our contributors has had a serious medical issue and they still insisted on coming through and helping us...don't wanna blab other people's business so you know who you are...such an π.
As I started packing the ute, I realised that I'd forgotten to buy biscuits. I was thinking, I wish Rachael, Marg and Kathryn were coming in because they always bring biscuits. No word of a lie, literally 10 minutes later Rachael messaged me and said they were coming in.π₯°π₯°π₯°
Not only did they bring biscuits but they also brought in heaps of clothes and toiletries. These came in so handy as these lovely ladies helped one of our regulars who had sprained his wrist and who was wet and sad.πππ This guy is always happy and chatty so it was worrying to see him that way. He left warmer and a lot happier. We all need pampering when we're having a hard time.
As well as forgetting to buy biscuits, I also forgot to get lunch so I was starving and feeling a bit faint by the time I got to the Golden Pavilion Wine & Dine Revesby to pick up the meals. I was met by Martin who, without me saying anything, ran inside and said "I've got something for you". He came back with sweet pork buns and fried prawn dumplings and then ran back in and grabbed me a drink when I said I was going to munch it in the car. Chris and Martin are such generous people. They have a brand new all day yum-cha menu and if it's anything like what I ate last night, just to die for.ππ
Pouring rain, on the busiest night of the week for a city restaurant and Ming from the Old Town Hong Kong On Barangaroo still shows up with boxes of delicious, hot food. He is so kind with his time and his resources. He never lets us down rain, hail or shine.π
Ivy and Mahesh who are very long term contributors, generously ordered us pizzas last night.ππ They went down a treat! Thanks to Michael and Nat from Domino's Pizza Sydney CBD for giving a big discount on these pizzas and free delivery.π€©π€©
Our beautiful friends Kim-Hue, Quyen, Ha, Tien and Early brought in huge pots of hot noodles and congi. Everyone always asks us if they are coming...warm home-cooked food on a cold winter's night definitely warms the insides. These ladies are so kind and patient...even letting one of our guys sleep on their car. πThey always take a walk and deliver food to any rough sleepers that may have missed out.πππππ
We saw a few of our friends that hadn't been around in a while. One of our founders M was back and helping on the coffee. He is such a generous human. I had a chat with one of the other guys and we were literally just swapping stories of the kind things M does for others.
That gave our barista the night off which he was very happy with.ππ He did nothing much but make everyone laugh with his sarcasm and a sports sweat band he found...parading around pretending to be John McEnroeππ...oh and picking up cloths pretending to clean so he could pose for photos.π
One of our rough sleepers rocked up with a massive bag full of new shoes. He'd asked for them at another service so that he could bring them to us. π
Another one of our regulars who I hadn't seen in a long while turned up with the present he always brings for me and my daughter...Up n' Gos.ππ. He is such a funny guy...always smiling, laughing, posing for photosπ and helping.π₯°
A guy turned up last night with the cutest dog. This guy has an interesting cultural mix which just happened to be two places I've been. We had a mad talk about his cultural stuff...just so knowledgeable and been through so much good and bad from a young age. You honestly meet some really cool, intelligent people with amazing stories if you come in. Just message our page if you would like to know more about the way we run.
So yeah, I think 'kind' does describe all of that...yep last night's kitchen was 'kind'.β€οΈ
