r de Cure community has grown to become a national movement of thousands of people, walking, running, riding and swimming to raise awareness and inspire support in the fight to cure cancer. The generosity of our supporters has enabled us to fund 797 cancer projects and we’re proud to have contributed to 129 scientific cancer breakthroughs. Thanks to our supporters, we're getting closer to our dream of a world without cancer, but there's still an urgent need for more effective treatments to improve survival rates and quality of life.

The Tour de Cure family nationwide is devastated by the news of the passing our beloved friend, researcher, and fellow rider Professor Richard Scolyer AO. Our thoughts and prayers are with Katie and their family.

Richard was a world-leader in melanoma, and later a ground-breaker in brain cancer research. He was an extraordinary man who never failed to put others before himself even as he battled the debilitating impact of his own brain cancer.

Richard first received grants from Tour de Cure almost a decade ago, and we are extremely proud of the 10 significant breakthroughs in melanoma research stemming from his work at the Melanoma Institute, that we were fortunate to be able to fund.

But Richard was far more than just a researcher. In 2023, he decided to ride with us in order to help raise funds to support all cancer research. He didn’t just want to accept funding, he wanted to help raise it.

As with everything he did, Richard threw himself totally into Tour de Cure, riding with us numerous times. He spoke at our major events, and did all he could to help raise funds and share his accumulated knowledge of cancer with all Australians.

In March this year, Richard incredibly got back on the bike for one last Tour, joining our ride through his home state of Tasmania, even bringing his son Matt and brother Mark to ride with him, while Katie joined the volunteer support crew. It was a physically challenging and extremely emotional ride for Richard, visiting his childhood home and the places he grew up, even a special stop for a presentation from the family’s beloved footy club, the Bridgenorth Parots.

This year, Tour de Cure, initiated The Professor Richard Scolyer Award, to recognise the most outstanding brain cancer project funded each year, in honour of Richard’s game-changing work.

We will remember Richard as an inspiring game-changer in cancer research, an amazingly generous person who knew no limits in his giving to others, and a great and loyal friend to many. We will all miss his unique and wonderful energy and spirit.

We’re thrilled to share that former professional cyclist and Tour de Cure favourite, Sarah Roy, will return as an ambassador for Signature Tour 2027 🚴‍♀️

After joining us on Signature Tour this year, Sarah reflected: “Tour de Cure is about the people, the conversations, the camaraderie. The bike is a vehicle to connection, purpose and inspiration. I was challenged, I was vulnerable, and I met so many special people who were brave enough to share their stories with me.”

In 2027, Signature Tour will take us from Sydney to the Gold Coast, 11 to 20 March. Registrations are open for 9-, 3- and 2-day ride options and for support crew (required all 10 days of Tour).

📢 Riders, this is your call to register today and save $1,000 on 9-day rider registration for Signature Tour ’27, 11–20 March.

This exceptional experience will take us on nine unforgettable days of riding from Sydney to the Gold Coast. Rolling out from Sydney Harbour, we’ll head north-west through NSW, before climbing into the spectacular Northern Rivers hinterland and crossing into Queensland for a Gold Coast finish.

More than a cycling tour, Signature Tour is a challenge that pushes you physically and connects you deeply to the cause. Along the way, you’ll meet survivors, researchers and families whose lives are changed by the funds we raise.

Every kilometre supports vital cancer research, support initiatives and prevention programs across Australia. 💛

9-day rider registration is $2,000 until midnight 31 May. After that, it increases to $3,000.
