Our FINAL SESSION of Voyage One! The Juanita Nielson Community Centre was the perfect location for us all to spend our last two workshops. We spent our time together deciding what would be submitted into publication from the collective journey.

The group of participants could not have been better for our first set of workshops. It was a pleasure to share these nine Saturday mornings together, the majority of which being spent in the glorious Botanic Gardens of Sydney. We were graced with sunshine for each and every session during the Winter season, therefore our prayers were surely answered.

We have learned a lot from our first run of The Notebook Club and our courage is gradually becoming confidence along the journey. The feedback that we have received has been most encouraging and we are thrilled that the workshops have helped our participants in more ways than we could have expected.

Information about the publication to come within the year and dates to be confirmed for our second set of The Notebook Club for the Spring/Summer time.

Thanks again to all our lovely participants! What a magical time it has been. Until next time, keep note-making!

After seven sessions outside, we have now come together under the roof of the Juanita Nielsen Community Centre for two cosy hangout sessions.

In this marvellous space, we are spending the last two windows of time together going through our individual and collective journey. Looking back at our creations within the pages of our h**p notebooks, we are both picking out and further developing all manor of mediums to be submitted for publication.

Reminding ourselves that this is more about the voyage and less about the destination, these final sessions are a wholesome experience with the supply of cooked food and more time to sit and chat around the communal table. The process may be a little clunky at this most experimental stage, but we are very excited to see as everything comes together into our very first collective publication.

More news about the publication to come soon.

Our final session at Botanic Gardens Sydney for our 2025 Autumn/Winter voyage. Such a magical place to be spending our Saturdays, we look forward to returning for Spring/Summer workshops.

We were graced by a professional photographer joining us along with the marketing manager from our financial support: City West Housing. Therefore we did not take many photos ourselves this week and we eagerly await the professional shots to be shared soon...

For our last outdoor session of the voyage, we came together to create a collective artwork that stretched across 12 pages of h**p paper. Putting our notebooks together, everyone took several turns adding shapes that would be filled in with a blend of mediums. The process was a meditative one, where the mind can wander and the outcome can be experimental.

Using a thick gold ink, everyone finally applied the finishing touches, bringing forth the weaving and winding shapes that connected all of our seperate pieces of work. Fine gold pens were provided for extra detailing. This was a creation of unity amongst the participants.

Feeling very blessed to have been given seven glorious sunny Saturdays. We are most thankful for our wonderful participants and we look forward to putting together the collective publication, to be revealed in due time.

Our sixth session fell on the Saturday of the winter solstice. This was the deepest day of the year so we ventured deep into the gardens, retrieving materials for making mandalas. Even the snacks became a mmmandala.

Our first mandala was a short-lived example to ignite everyone's sense for pattern recognition. Together, we took turns to add to a grand design that naturally unfolded onto 11 sheets of cyanotype paper. The design was then carefully carried out into the sunshine where it sat for a short time, capturing the images from the shadows cast by the leaves and flowers.

Everyone kept a piece of the puzzle and then moved onto creating their very own compositions a personal piece of cyanotype paper, prepared through the week prior to the session.

An absolutely glorious day to be in the Botanic Gardens of Sydney printing photograms in the sunshine with wonderful, creative people.

For our fifth session, we focused on the written word. We created our own quill pens from collected feathers and had everyone feeling like scribes of times long ago. We scribed scribbles, scratchy poems and inky patterns, opened our voices in significant discussions and connected in all things sacred.

What a curious day it was for our fourth session.

The King’s “birthday” weekend meant that bagpipes could be heard in the distance, a fighter jet roared through the peaceful atmosphere and 21 guns were fired, dispersing the birds and disrupting the homeostasis of nature.

Coincidentally, our theme for this week was to take what is fearful (the news) and turn it into something beautiful using collage as our medium.

Workshop three was all about slowing down time. After spending some time sitting on a bench and note-making, each participant paired up for an active listening task.

Following this, we all engaged in a collective tree drawing exercise. We sat around this cute Fig Tree, and took it in turns drawing a bit within each other’s notebook.

The end result was that each one of us contributed to a final image within everyone’s notebook.

Session two of The Notebook Club and again, after another long week of rain, the sun shone through for us.

Despite the very wet and sloshy grass, we all survived without getting too muddy.

With 'personas' as our theme, we explored shadows in our Note-Making. Just as well the sun was shining!
