COUNCIL ELECTION RESULT DETERMINED BY 416 VOTES
The result of our recent council elections for Mayor was decided following the distribution of preferences. It was a very close contest.
For Mayor we had 3 candidates being Michael Megna , Charles Jago and myself.
The respective candidates received the following % of votes-
Michael Megna 46.08% and Charles Jago 15.58% and myself 38.33%.
As Charles had the lowest Mayoral vote he was eliminated from the contest and where his supporters nominated a preference his votes were allocated accordingly.
The Table herein below confirms that Michael received 768 preferences and myself 3,710 with 3110 ‘exhausted’ ie not allocated to either candidate as the voter never confirmed a preference.
The final outcome after the distribution of preferences was very close with Michael winning the Mayoral ballot with 50.91% and myself 49.09%.
If I had won 416 of the preferences that went to Michael we would have had a different outcome in these elections.
I have congratulated Michael on the outcome and have wished him every success. We are lucky to live in a country where we have fair elections. I think the very close result will strengthen the future performance of council.
4 Liberals were elected as Councillors.
Both Charles Jago and myself were elected as Councillors with two of my colleagues/ ‘running mates’ being Maria Cirillo and Dave Mansford also elected.
I also acknowledge all candidates who nominated but were unsuccessful in these elections.
I thank residents for their support in the council elections and commit to working with dedication to being a strong voice for our community.
