日本語↓ A couple of weeks ago, our team made it to Epping for the first time to check out the rubbish situation there! The following blog was written by James. I just added the Japanese. Thank you so much for stepping up to help with this clean James and friends! It means a lot 👏🌿

Epping seems like a relatively well looked after place, which was clear when we passed through Forest Park and found it spotless. The people who live in the suburb took genuine interest in our cleanup with jokes and inquiries. The usual items we encounter were still there, with many ci******es and mentos packets. After cleaning the streets nearby the station, which did have high amounts of trash, we ended in the lovely Boronia Park. There were a lot volunteers of all ages, showing that care for the environment has no age limitations. I was particularly proud of the turnout. In total, 29 volunteers collected 12.45kgs worth of rubbish!

エッピングは全体的に見たら割ときれいな町だなと感じました。地元の人たちも、私たちの活動に興味を持ってくれて、声をかけてくれたり、ちょっとしたジョークを言ってくれたりして、温かい雰囲気でした。

とはいえ、いつも通りのゴミもやっぱりあって、特にタバコの吸い殻やあめの包装が目立ちました。駅周辺の通りはゴミが多めで、そこを中心に清掃しましたが、最後は素敵なボロニアパークで締めくくりました。

今回は本当に幅広い年齢層のボランティアが集まっていて、「環境を大切にする気持ちに年齢は関係ないな」と改めて感じました。個人的にも、この参加人数はとても誇らしかったです。

最終的には、29人のボランティアで合計12.45kgのゴミを回収しました！

今回参加してくださった皆様、そしてスムーズにリードしてくれたジェームズさんとお手伝いしてくれた仲間たちに感謝の気持ちを伝えます！

日本語↓ Was lucky enough to be able to participate in another Green Bird Hiroshima clean in March☺️! This was our third time cleaning in Hiroshima, and as usual, some things stood out:

-The lack of litter in comparison to Sydney
-Ci******es remained as the top source of litter
-The Hiroshima team continues to separate their rubbish into 4 categories (cans, glass, burnable and non burnable rubbish).

We were warmly welcomed by the regular members, many of whom we had met before. The thing that stands out to me about Green Bird is the sense of community it creates among regulars and newcomers alike. There are always opportunities to have meaningful conversations with good people, no matter how many times you have met them.

We were also so lucky to be cleaning on a beautiful day with the cherry blossoms blooming. A perfect day to get out and make an impression on the smokers and other people in the areas we cleaned in.

Thank you once again for the opportunity to clean together, Hiroshima team. It fills my heart with joy each time we meet 🩷🌸

３月に、再びグリーンバード広島の町清掃活動に参加することができました！☺️
今回で広島での清掃は３回目となりましたが、相変わらずいくつかのことが印象にのこりました。

⇒シドニーと比べてゴミの少なさ。
⇒最も多いゴミの種類は今回もタバコでした。
⇒広島チームが「缶・ビン・可燃ゴミ・不燃ゴミ」の４種類にしっかり分別している点。

当日は、以前お会いしたことのある常連メンバーの皆さんが温かく迎えてくださいました。グリーンバードの魅力は、こうした温かさにあると改めて感じました。初めての人でも、何度も会ったことがある人でも、いつも意味のある会話が楽しくできるのが本当に魅力的です。

さらにこの日は、桜が美しく咲く最高のお天気にも恵まれました。そんな中での清掃活動はとても気持ちが良く、喫煙者の方々と地域の人たちに少しでも良い影響を与えられていたらと思います。

広島チームの皆さん、今回も一緒に清掃する機会をいただき、本当にありがとうございました。
皆さんとお会いするたびに、心が温かい気持ちで満たされます。また是非広島でもシドニーでもご一緒にグリーンバードをしましょう🩷🌸

日本語↓I couldn't quite believe it when I saw this month's numbers, but at the same time, I could! We managed to pick up 44.85 kg of rubbish on Clean Up Australia Day! A few factors contributed to this:

-Cleaning up in Surry Hills after Mardi Gras the night before
-Picking up a lot of alcohol glass bottles that had been thrown into bushes
-Having a good sized team of 26

One thing that I wish would happen is that party decorations such as streamers and feathers would be banned unless made from paper. We picked up a lot of party waste, and encountered endless glitter (microplastic) scattered all around the streets.

I hope we raised awareness about this issue with the local community as they watched us weigh countless bags full to the brim with rubbish.

Thank you to all that turned up to make a difference to our local environment and leave an impression on Clean Up Australia Day!

今月の拾ったゴミの重さを計算したとき、正直「本当に！？」と驚いてしまいました。でも同時に、「やっぱりそうかも」とも思いました。

今年の Clean Up Australia Day では、なんと 44.85kg ものごみを回収することができました！

今回これだけの量になったのは、いくつかの理由があります。

⇒前夜にマルディグラが開催された後のSurry Hills を清掃したこと

⇒茂みに投げ捨てられたアルコールのガラス瓶を多数回収したこと

⇒26名という心強いチームで活動できたこと

特に印象的だったのは、パーティーグッズのごみの多さです。ストリーマーや羽根飾りなどの装飾品、そして至るところに散らばったグリッター（マイクロプラスチック）。もし可能であれば、こうしたパーティー装飾は紙製以外は禁止になってほしい…と強く感じました。

活動中、地域の方々が私たちの様子を見守ってくださいました。ごみ袋が次々といっぱいになり、それを量る光景は、きっとある程度のインパクトがあったのではないかと思います。少しでもこの問題について考えるきっかけになっていれば嬉しいです。

改めて、今回参加してくださった皆さま、本当にありがとうございました。地域の環境のために行動して、Clean Up Australia Dayに確かな足跡を残すことができました。

日本語↓This month's haul: 13.5 kg of rubbish in 1.5 hours. Our clean up was postponed by one week due to the weather. So in the end, we cleaned up on Valentine's Day! Thank you to the volunteers that came out on this day to have a date with Green Bird 🫣. We started at Darling Square, focusing on small pieces of rubbish. As we moved towards Chinatown, we encountered the usual issue - rubbish stuck in planter grates. It is always disappointing to see how much rubbish finds its way into these grates around local trees. I wonder if it is due to direct littering, or rubbish falling off overflowing bins. The drains themselves were also a sight to behold..and all of that rubbish will eventually find its way into Sydney Harbour (I recommend checking out the work Seabin Project does to see how much of our trash is ending up in the sea around Sydney). As usual, we attracted a lot of eyes during the clean. A guy even joked with us, pointing to a tree and saying, "Look, a green bird!"
But that type of attention is also good. We are reminding those around us about the severity of the environmental issues we face, and hopefully encouraging more collective action...Reflecting on the words of a volunteer recently who mentioned the 'greenbird vision' he gains after a clean up, I also hope the public starts to notice how much rubbish there really is surrounding them. I think our activities definitely help with this. Sometimes it's the small pieces that have the largest impact. I look forward to our next clean on Clean Up Australia Day! Won't you join in too? 😌

今月のクリーンアップは雨天の影響で1週間延期となって、結果的にバレンタインデーにすることになりました！今月、Green Birdとデートをしてくれたボランティアの皆さん、本当にありがとうございました🫣

今回はダーリング・スクエアからスタートし、小さなゴミを中心に回収しました。チャイナタウンへ向かうにつれて、いつもの問題に直面しました。それは、グレーチング（木の周りの金属製の格子）に詰まったゴミです。木々の周りのグレーチングに、これほど多くのゴミが入り込んでいるのを見ると、いつもがっかりします。直接ポイ捨てされたものなのか、それとも溢れたゴミ箱から落ちたものなのか…

そして排水溝もまた衝撃的な状態でした。そこにあるゴミは、やがてシドニー・ハーバーへと流れ着いてしまいます。（シドニー周辺の海にどれほどのゴミが流れ込んでいるのか、ぜひSeabin の活動をチェックしてみてください。）

今回も、私たちの活動は多くの人の注目を集めました。ある男性は木を指さして「ほら、グリーンバードだよ！」と冗談を言ってきました。でも、そうした注目も大切だと思います。私たちは周囲の人々に、私たちが直面している環境問題の深刻さを思い出させ、そしてより多くの人が環境に興味を持ってくれるきっかけになればと願っています。

それに最近、あるボランティアが「クリーンアップの後に“グリーンバード・ビジョン”が身につく」と話してくれました。ゴミ拾いをしてから、落ちているゴミをより目にしてしまう現象を指しています。彼のように、周りの人々も私たちの活動を見て、もっとゴミに気づいてくれればいいですね。

日本語↓Sometimes I feel like the Green Bird goddess is shining on us, because we often get good luck with the weather! Our January clean up was no exception. If the clean up had been the day before, I would have had to reschedule it due to extreme heat. At the same time, rain was forecast in the afternoon on the day of the clean. But the morning was just right! No rain and a cool day. Perfect to get stuck into the planters and roadsides of Strathfield. Our small-ish team of 15 picked up 16.8 kilograms of rubbish in just an hour and a half! And we could have kept going, except our bags were completely full and we ended up walking back to the starting point having to leave rubbish behind. What struck me and other volunteers this month was the immediate effect our activities can have on those around us. Smokers who were smoking nearby walked over to the bin to dispose of their ci******es. A man started giving me a lecture on not throwing cans into the bin because people collect them to recycle for money. I was going to mention to him how we find a lot of can tabs (the tab you lift to open the canned product) on the roads, and how these are dangerous to wildlife, but I decided against it. It was clear that our activities had left some type of impression on him, which is the goal anyway. All of the volunteers that came were there because they care about the environment, and want to turn their concerns into action. Whether they are locals, or from Japan, Korea, the Czech Republic or Argentina, we all share a common goal in wanting our cities and our Earth to be cleaner! Thank you for showing our local community that everyone is capable of making change through their own, individual actions. See you again in February when we return to Darling Harbour!

時々、グリーンバードの女神様が私たちを見守ってくれているような気がします。天気に恵まれることが多いからです！1月のクリーンアップも例外ではありませんでした。

もし活動が前日だったら、あまりの猛暑に日程を変更しなければならなかったと思います。また、当日の午後は雨の予報が出ていました。でも、午前中は雨も降らず、涼しかったので、ストラスフィールドのプランターや道端の掃除に集中するにはぴったりでした。

15人という少人数のチームでしたが、わずかの1時間半で16.8キロのゴミも回収できました！ゴミ袋がいっぱいになってしまい、最後はスタート地点に戻っている途中で見つけたごみを残すより仕方なかったほどです。

今月、私と他のボランティアさんにとって印象に残ったのは、私たちの活動が周囲の人々に与える即座の影響でした。近くでタバコを吸っていた人たちは、私たちの活動が気になっていたようで、わざわざゴミ箱まで歩いて吸い殻を捨てました。また、ある男性は「缶をゴミ箱に捨てるな（換金するためにリサイクルする人がいるから）」と私に説教を始めました。道路にはたくさんのプルタブが落ちていて、それが野生動物に危険だと彼に伝えようとも思いましたが、やめておきました。いずれにせよ、私たちの活動が彼に何らかの印象を残したことは明らかで、それこそが私たちの目的だからです。

今月参加してくれたボランティアさんは地元人をはじめ、日本、韓国、チェコ、そしてアルゼンチンから来た方々でした。出身はどこであれ、環境を大切に思い、その思いを具体的な行動に移したいと考えている点はみんな一緒です。

個人の行動を通じて誰もが変化を起こせるということを、地域社会に示してくれてありがとうございます。2月、またダーリングハーバーでお会いしましょう！

And that's a wrap!🎁 We finished off 2025 by doing a Hyde Park clean, and continued to pick up rubbish until we reached a Christmas tree at Martin Place. As this is a time of year where we show our gratitude to those around us, I want to say a very big thank you to everyone who has turned up this year to make a small social contribution and set a good example to those around us. We often feel powerless in the face of the environmental challenges our society and world are facing, but by showing up to clean up, our volunteers have shown the wider community that individuals can take steps to do better, and that our world is in our own hands.

Rubbish picked up: 16.3 kilograms!
Considering our group was on the small side this month, I think it's amazing what we managed to pick up in only 1.5 hours.

Merry Christmas to both our regular and casual volunteers. Without you, it wouldn't be possible to do this. I am so grateful to you always!

2025年の活動は終了です！
今年最後の清掃活動はハイドパークから始まり、マーティン・プレイスのクリスマスツリーに到着するまで、ゴミ拾いを続けました。

この時期は、身近な人たちへの感謝の気持ちを表す季節でもあります。今年中に活動に参加して、小さくても社会に良い影響を与えて、周りの人たちに良いお手本を見せてくださった皆さんに、心から感謝しています。

今の世界では、目の前の環境問題はとても大きくて、無力に感じてしまうこともあります。しかし、クリーンアップに参加することで、私たちのボランティアさんは「人間一人一人でも、環境に優しい行動を選ぶことができる」「環境を守るのは一人一人の責任だ」というメッセージを、社会に示してくれました。

今月は少人数での活動でしたが、わずか1.5時間でこれだけのゴミを回収できたことは、本当に素晴らしい成果だと思います。

常連のボランティアの皆さんも、今回初めて参加してくださった皆さんも、メリークリスマス🎄

日本語↓"I don't want to just take from this earth. I want to give back" - A beautiful quote from a new volunteer at Eastwood this month!

In line with Green Bird's motto - clean streets make for clean hearts. Yes it's true that the streets will get dirty again quickly, but we are doing more than just a quick clean of the streets. We are making the area more pleasant for people to live in. Hopefully locals realise that without rubbish around, they feel better. That might encourage them to keep the environment nicer. Just like how a clean toilet often stays clean, whereas a dirty toilet often gets dirtier. People are more likely to respect places that have been kept tidy and clean.

Sometimes people will ask me, "Why did you choose picking up rubbish as your way of helping out the environment?" To answer this, I want to borrow words from Green Bird's philosophy:

Green Bird is the first step in
social contribution
that anyone can freely and
casually participate in.

I chose Green Bird because I wanted my contribution to be more visible. I do lots of things here and there for the environment, but nobody sees what I do. When you are out there on the streets, you are that presence that hopefully makes those around you think about plastic pollution and cigarette pollution more.

The direct environmental impact of picking up rubbish may look small, but this month again, we saved many kilograms of rubbish from entering natural ecosystems. If more people get involved, our impact will continue to grow☺️That is my wish for this activity.

「この地球から“取るだけ”の存在にはなりたくない。ちゃんと“返したい”」
今月のイーストウッドで初参加してくれたボランティアさんの、とても素敵な言葉です。

グリーンバードのモットーは「きれいな街は、人の心もきれいにする」です。
たしかに、清掃活動の後、道はすぐにまた汚れてしまいます。でも私たちは、ただゴミを拾っているだけではありません。人々が気持ちよく暮らせる環境を作っています。ゴミのない場所にいると、自然と心が軽くなるものです。それに気づいた地域の方々が、環境をきれいに保とうという気持ちになってくれたら嬉しいです。きれいなトイレはきれいなまま保たれやすいけど、汚れたトイレはどんどん汚れていくように、人は「きれいに保たれている場所」をより大切にしたくなるのではないかと思います。

時々、こんな質問をされます。
「どうして“ゴミ拾い”を環境のための活動として選んだの？」
その答えとして、私はグリーンバードの理念の言葉を借りたいと思います。

グリーンバードは、
誰もが気軽に参加できる
社会貢献の
はじめの一歩です。

私がグリーンバードを選んだのは、自分の環境への貢献が「目に見える形」であってほしかったからです。環境のために小さなことは普段からいろいろしているけれど、それは誰の目にも触れません。
でも街に出て活動すると、その姿自体が周りの人にプラスチック汚染やタバコのポイ捨てについて考えるきっかけになってくれるかもしれません。

ゴミ拾いの直接的な効果は小さく見えるかもしれませんが、今月も私たちは多くのゴミを自然環境に流れ込む前に回収することができました。
もっと多くの人が参加してくれれば、私たちの影響力はどんどん大きくなっていきます☺️
それが私のこの活動への願いです。

日本語↓This month we returned to Circular Quay for the second time to clean up! I had visited the area a couple of weeks prior and saw that it was definitely a hot spot for rubbish. There are the fast food outlets, the tram tracks and the train station. All very close to the harbour, so it is no doubt that lots of this rubbish is entering the water. It becomes very clear when we clean up near the harbour or ocean how essential it is to raise people's awareness around responsible disposal of waste, including ci******es of course! It was a large group this time, with a number of teens also joining in. As a teacher myself, the importance of having people as young as possible participating is always at the forefront of my mind. Thanks to everyone who came out to work tirelessly on the gutters, planters and tram tracks to set an example for everyone around us!

今月は２回目のサーキュラーキーのお掃除を行いました！周辺にはファストフード店もトラムの線路も駅もあって、どれもハーバーのすぐ近くにありますから、たくさんのゴミが海に流れ込んでしまってもおかしくない話です。
海岸の近くで掃除すると、改めて「ゴミの正しい捨て方」について人々の意識を高めることがどれだけ大切なのかを実感します。もちろん、タバコの吸い殻も含めて！
今回は参加者も多く、10代の子たちも何人か参加してくれました。私自身も教師なので、できるだけ若いうちからこうした活動に参加することの大事さをいつも意識しています。
側溝やプランター、トラムの線路沿いで、一生懸命清掃活動をしてくれた皆さん、本当にありがとうございました！私たちの行動から、周りの人たちが見習いますように。

日本語↓This month, we returned to Macquarie Park to clean up for the second time! The weather was beautiful, and the amount of rubbish we discovered relatively expected. What I didn't expect however, was some unfriendly people, including a driver who beeped angrily for our volunteers to cross the road quickly, and a man who told us to leave the area. While these incidents are certainly upsetting, I am reminded that the overwhelming majority of people comment positively on our activities, and appreciate what we are doing. So I'll choose to focus on those people! It really is a shame how neglected some of the local streets are. I can't help but wonder why the council focuses only on surface cleans, and doesn't think about how microplastics in our ecosystem are affecting both humans and animals alike. Of course, it is the public that needs to change too. I can only hope that by seeing our activities, people reconsider their actions when throwing away rubbish. As usual, thank you to all of the volunteers who turned up on their Sunday to help out -some coming from very far away to participate. You are appreciated, and are the hope for our earth's future. See you again in October!

今月は、晴れ渡る青空の下で、2回目のマッコリーエリアのお掃除活を行いました！ここで見つけたゴミの量はだいたい予想通りでしたが、予想外だったのは、感じの悪い人たちに出会ったことです。ボランティアさんが道路を渡っている時に、車の運転手が怒ったようにクラクションを鳴らしたり、「ここから出て行け」と言った人もいました。こういう出来事は悲しいですが、大半の人は私たちの活動をポジティブに見てくれて、温かく応援してくれますね。

地元の通りがこんなに放置されているのは本当に残念です。なぜ市が表面だけを掃除して、マイクロプラスチックが人間や動物に与える影響を考えないのか、不思議です。もちろん、市民一人一人の意識も変わらなきゃいけません。私たちの活動を見て、ゴミを捨てる時に自分の行動を考え直してくれる人が増えたらいいなと思います。

今回も日曜日に集まってくれたボランティアの皆さん、本当にありがとうございました！遠くからわざわざ来てくれた方もいて、心から感謝しています。皆さんは未来の地球の希望です🥹本当にそう思います!!10月もまたお会いしましょう！

日本語↓ On Sunday, we returned for the third time in our team's 3 years of activity to Chatswood. It's a busy area, offering us a lot of visibility. As usual, sometimes places like Chatswood seem clean on the surface, but just one look into the bushes and you will find a mountain of discarded plastic, vapes and other rubbish. Our volunteers worked on the parks, roadsides and planter boxes along the main shopping strip, trying to send a message to the locals about their way of disposing waste. Microplastics were everywhere, and several groups tipped out the contents of their bags before proceeding to fill them fully again. While this is the sad reality of Willoughby City Council biggest centre, we tried to do our little bit to help out the environment. It was finally a sunny day, so I guess the Green Bird gods wanted our August clean up to happen! Thank you to everyone who joined in, and I look forward to seeing you again for our first clean of spring next month!

シドニーチームの活動が始まって3年が経った今月は、3回目となるチャッツウッドの清掃活動を行いました。とても人通りの多いエリアなので、活動を多くの方に見てもらえる場所です。チャッツウッドのような場所は表面的にきれいに見えても、少し茂みの中をのぞくと、捨てられたプラスチックや使い捨ての電子タバコ、その他のゴミが山のように出てきます。

今回もボランティアの皆さんは、公園や道路沿い、そしてショッピングストリップの花壇などを掃除して、地元の方々にゴミの捨て方について少しでも考えてもらえるようにと頑張っていました。マイクロプラスチックは至るところにある中、いくつかのボランティアは一度袋の中身を空けてから、またすぐにいっぱいになるまで集めていました。

これは残念ながらwilloughby市の最大の中心地の現実ですが、私たちの活動は環境のために少しでも力になったなら嬉しいです。久しぶりに晴れた日だったので、まるでグリーンバードの神様が8月の活動をさせてくれたようでした！

参加してくださった皆さん、本当にありがとうございました。来月は春ですね。またその時お会いできるのを楽しみにしています！
