The Portable Bed Project LET'S GET EM' OFF THE GROUND AGAIN 🔥

About our Project
The Portable Bed Project is a Not for Profitable Gain Organization
Our primary aim is to ‘get people off the ground’ while living on the streets and we do this by supplying light weight portable camp beds. Being homeless and living on the streets means you will be moved on by law enforcement and council regulators, but knowing someone has your back and you have

‘A bed wherever you go’ can make the world of difference. We also gather donated items from community support such as toiletries, clothing, blankets and hit the streets with an Outreach approach to connect with people on a grass root level and supply them with what we all take for granted every day. We also supply other services such as
‘The Outpost’ in Geelong and ‘Youth Projects’ in Hosier Lane, Melbourne with supplies. We started on 26th of May 2016 when a Melbourne city community of street sleepers got washed out in torrential rains and Steven Neville
(The founder) was asked “how can we get them off the ground”
The idea came as there were unused camp stretchers in the shed and once remembering about them while in thought of a solution,
the answer was clear. They were cleaned up, packed into the car, taken to the CBD,
met with total appreciation and then….

‘The Portable Bed Project’ was born. We now have bigger dreams and plans of how we can better help our friends on the streets.

‘The Compassion Van’
Is a service where a team of trained Volunteers will hit the streets, each with a different service
A hairdresser, A registered nurse, A crisis councillor are just some of the plans I see to implement in the short-term future.

‘The Portable Shower Project’
Self-explanatory, and much needed in the Geelong Area.

With only two days until hit Adelaide 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Tomorrow morning I’m kicking off Part 2 of this 3-part pilgrimage to see the greatest rock band to ever walk a stage — their final Australian/World tour. 🤘

For us Gen X’ers, this wasn’t just music. It was an inheritance, a gift from our parents that wired thunder into our bones forever 💙

I’ll never sell my records!!!!!

So let it be said!

LET’S GO TO R’ADELAIDE 🍻

While we’re there — I'm giving out some $BEDS to people who actually need them.

Anyone wanna help?

Why $BEDS?

A portable bed isn’t just a bed. It hits multiple layers of the problem at once:

1. Physical survival.
A raised, insulated surface keeps someone off the cold concrete, out of the damp, away from pests, and reduces the risk of hypothermia, skin infections, and chronic pain. Safety and rest are the first domino.

2. Psychological stability.
When someone finally gets one night of decent sleep, everything changes — decision-making, emotional regulation, energy levels, willingness to engage with support services. Sleep is medicine for the nervous system.

3. Dignity and agency.
Giving someone their own bed — something portable, theirs to control — restores a sense of humanity and self-worth. That’s the foundation of any long-term turnaround.

4. Mobility and opportunity.
Portable means they can move safely, avoid dangerous hotspots, stay near services, jobs, or community hubs without sacrificing rest.

5. Community connection.
Handing over a bed builds trust. It opens the door to deeper support — food, clothing, referrals, services, conversation. It’s a bridge, not a band-aid.

6. Prevention of long-term damage.
Every night someone isn’t sleeping on the ground is one less night accelerating trauma, addiction relapse, and health deterioration. Early intervention stops the spiral.

It’s not the whole solution — but it’s a damn strong piece of the puzzle that actually meets people where they are, right now, with something that changes their day and their trajectory 🙏
