A big thank you to everyone who has stopped by and donated to Legacy Week 2026 so far β€” your generosity is making a real difference for the families we support.

Tomorrow, you'll find our volunteers at our major shopping centers, Bunnings and down south at Buxton Shops β€” come say hello and drop a donation if you can!

Then on Saturday, we'll be out at Bunnings Bundaberg and Van Cootens in Howard, so if you're in the area, swing by for a chat.

A special mention today for the lovely Tess, who spent her birthday raising funds for Legacy at IGA Childers alongside our committee member Judy. What a way to spend a birthday β€” thank you both, and happy birthday, Tess!

Every hello, every donation, and every volunteer hour is helping us keep the promise to look after our veteran families. Thank you, Bundaberg, for your support!

Legacy Week 2026: A Promise Kept Since 1923 🧑

Did you know? Legacy began with a simple promise made between diggers in the trenches of World War I β€” one soldier telling his dying mate, "I'll look after the missus and kids." That promise became the foundation of Legacy, formally established in 1923 by returned servicemen including Sir Stanley Savige.

By 1942, that spirit of care had grown into the War Orphans Appeal β€” which we now know as Legacy Week β€” raising funds to support the widows and children of those who served. Well over 80 years on, Bundaberg Legacy carries that same promise forward, caring for veteran families right here in our own community.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and donated yesterday β€” your generosity means so much to the families we support. 🧑

And a special shoutout to the wonderful team at Cafe Central, Hinkler, for keeping our volunteers fuelled with a generous donation of coffees this week. Gestures like this make a big difference to the people giving up their time to stand at collection points all week β€” thank you!

There's still plenty of Legacy Week left to go. Come find our volunteers at Hinkler Central, Sugarland Plaza, Bargara Central, Bunnings Bundaberg, Childers IGA, Buxton, and our Howard area sites, and help us keep the promise alive.

As Bundaberg Legacy Inc prepares for its biggest fundraising week of the year, new operations manager Brett Bearham reflects on the grandfather who survived Singapore’s fall, the Thai-Burma Railway and the atomic bombing of Japan β€” and why that legacy of mateship now drives his own.

A big thank you to Ryan and the team from Byrne Lawyers for taking the time to speak with our ladies about the importance of estate planning.

Estate planning can feel like a daunting topic, but sessions like this one remind us just how valuable it is to get things in order. Having a clear, up to date will and estate plan brings real peace of mind, not only for yourself but for the loved ones you leave behind. It ensures your wishes are known and respected, and it can save families from added stress and uncertainty during an already difficult time.

Ryan is one of our fantastic supporters here at Bundaberg Legacy, and Byrne Lawyers, based right here in Bundaberg, provide a wide range of professional legal services to our community. We are so grateful for their generosity in sharing their time and expertise with our Legacy widows.

Thank you, Ryan and the team at Byrne Lawyers, for your continued support of Bundaberg Legacy and the families we serve.

Home maintenance is one of the quiet but important ways Bundaberg Legacy supports the widows of our veteran community β€” because a safe, well-kept home matters just as much as anything else we do.

A big thank you to Brett and the team at Manko's Mowing for their continued professional support, helping keep yards safe and tidy for the widows we care for.

This project is proudly supported by the Queensland Veterans' Council.
