WILPF NSW marched for Gaza across the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The March for Humanity . People came in their thousands, hundreds of thousands. They came in the downpour, with their kids, their dogs, their walking sticks. The young and the old, from all walks of life, they spilled out of overflowing train stations onto overcrowded footpaths. They sang , they chanted, they banged on drums and pots and pans. They were calm , they were kind , they offered to share umbrellas and they talked about the atrocities in Gaza.
It was historic, it was powerful , it was reaffirming , it was the best of humanity protesting the worst of humanity.
I saw first hand the confusion at the end of the bridge and the potential body crush of sending 50,000 people back onto 50,000 coming forward … a potential catastrophe which was only averted because of the calibre of the people marching that day. They were amazing.
The People have spoken… let’s hope the Government listens.
