New podcast alert! 🎧 https://bit.ly/4fnDJtj 🎧

In this HIV Australia podcast, we’re joined by Harrison Sarasola, Manager, HIV and Community Health Programs at Health Equity Matters, to discuss the Peer-led Contact Tracing pilot project.

We unpack the rationale behind a peer-led approach, how the model evolved from its original design and the realities of implementing it within complex health system structures.

We also explore what this could mean for the future of HIV contact tracing in Australia.

Today marks the beginning of a time of healing and reconciliation in Australia.

Beginning with National Sorry Day, today we reflect on the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, who are known as the Stolen Generations.

It is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our nation.

This is followed by National Reconciliation Week which takes place from 27 May–3 June.

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is ‘All In’. This is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

Introducing the HIV FUTURES Impact report!

HIV FUTURES monitors the health, wellbeing, and life experiences of people living with HIV (PLHIV). It is the largest and longest running study of its kind in the world, having first launched in 1997.

This report, created in partnership with NAPWHA, Health Equity Matters and ASHM, explores the ways the HIV FUTURES studies have been used by the HIV sector, particularly the community-based sector, in informing policy development, advocacy work and service delivery.

Today is the International Day Against LGBTQIA+ discrimination, known by most as IDAHOBIT.

A significant day for our communities, today is an invitation to celebrate LGBTIQA+ people globally, and recognise the work still needed to combat discrimination.

The International Day Against LGBTQIA+ discrimination is observed on 17 May, marking the date in 1990 that homos*xuality was removed from the WHO Classification of Diseases.

Tuesday’s Federal Budget ensures Australia’s robust HIV response continues, with funding announcements that will enable PrEP and treatment access for everyone in Australia who is eligible for them.

The budget papers confirm an investment of $52 million over four years to ensure Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is affordable to everyone in Australia.

We thank the Albanese government and the Hon Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Ageing for their continued support in Australia’s HIV response.

Internationally, we also recognise the Albanese government’s recent commitments of $48 million for Pacific HIV responses and $266 million over three years to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. We appreciate the continued support from Senator the Hon Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs in working to protect Australia’s health security and the health of the family of Pacific Island Countries we belong to.
