Today is Wear It Purple Day! 💜 At Redkite, we know that when a child has cancer, it can be an incredibly challenging time for the whole family. Every young person deserves to feel safe, supported and included, including LGBTQIA+ young people and young people from LGBTQIA+ families.

This Wear It Purple Day, we’re wearing purple to show our support and remind every young person affected by cancer that they are seen, valued and accepted exactly as they are.

Meet Emme, a 15-year-old Dare to Dream finalist from Sydney with dreams of becoming a sports physiotherapist and returning to the footy field. 🏈

Emme has played rugby league since she was seven, but after being diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome in 2025 and undergoing a bone marrow transplant, she faced ongoing complications that impacted her mobility and kept her away from the sport she loves.

Inspired by the role her own physiotherapist played in her recovery, Emme now hopes to help others. She plans to use her Dare to Dream Scholarship to focus on her education, complete introductory sports trainer courses and continue working towards a future in physiotherapy.

Her mum, Holly, couldn't be more proud. "I'm bursting with pride. Just how she continues to carry herself – her strength, her motivation, and still holding on to the passion. She hasn't let this dim her light, she's still very much motivated."

After a gruelling first 2 weeks, Eddie frenchmanontherun continues to show up, putting one foot in front of the other and clocking up some serious kms on his record-breaking run across Australia for families facing childhood cancer. 🏃‍♂️

To date, Eddie has been on the road for over 16 days – an absolutely mammoth challenge that is just as much mental as it is physical. An incredible effort, and an amazing display of determination.

For the first six months of Bronson's treatment, his family relocated to Newcastle to be close to the hospital. At the same time, his parents, Alicia and Steve, were navigating how to keep their café and newly purchased events business running back home.

Steve travelled back and forth – sometimes twice a week – while thankfully their staff, customers, friends and family rallied around them to help keep the businesses afloat. 🤝

Four years on, Bronson has finished treatment, but the costs haven’t ended. His family still travels to Newcastle every three months for check-ups.

Meet Yohaan, a 13-year-old Dare to Dream finalist from NSW with big dreams for his future! 📸

Diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2024, Yohaan has faced an incredibly challenging treatment journey. Complications from chemotherapy have left him using a wheelchair for the past year, spending much of his time away from school and friends.

Being confined to hospital beds and a wheelchair made Yohaan realise just how much he values the world beyond hospital walls. He dreams of following his passion for photography and becoming a professional drone photographer – exploring landscapes, seeing the world from new perspectives and reaching places most people cannot.

Yohaan plans to use his Dare to Dream Scholarship to purchase his own drone and work towards making that dream a reality. Congratulations Yohaan! 💛

Rachel’s experience reflects a broader issue highlighted in our latest research, The Hidden Financial Crisis. 27% of respondents said Centrelink had been of no help to their situation, with families often finding support from not-for-profit organisations, crowdfunding, friends and relatives more helpful.

Families need financial support from diagnosis, without having to navigate complex systems or reach breaking point.
