Nourishing our Gold Coast community

Our Gold Coast branch of OzHarvest is nourishing our local community by rescuing good food that would otherwise go to waste to feed those in need.

Donations of $1 allow us to deliver 2 meals to the 2 million Australian without enough food. OzHarvest is a non-denominational food rescue charity. In our first month in 2004, OzHarvest delivered 4,000 meals to 14 shelters using one van. OzHarvest now delivers the equivalent of around 600,000 meals each month to over 900 charities with its fleet of 35 vans across Australia. Since inception OzHarvest has rescued over 60 millions meals to feed those in need and avoid this quality excess food from going to waste. OzHarvest currently rescues food throughout Australia where we: • collect excess fresh food that would otherwise be thrown out from corporate offices, delis, restaurants, caterers, function centres, supermarkets, hotels, airline caterers and events etc. • provide the food to charities which support disadvantaged and at risk communities - including the homeless, youth at risk, women escaping domestic violence, drug abuse, alcohol abuse and those experiencing financial difficulties. We do this at no cost to either the food donors or the recipient charities By turning a waste product into a resource, our mission serves the dual and unique purposes of supporting both: • our community by providing quality fresh food to those who can benefit from it. • our environment by diverting fit for purpose food from being dumped as landfill. The food collected is of a high quality and would normally be thrown away. It is collected in refrigerated vans and delivered on the same day to charities and organisations helping to feed those in need. OzHarvest relies on donations from individuals, businesses and philanthropic organisations to ensure we can continue to provide our vital service. It is easy to support what we do - every dollar has a direct impact as OzHarvest is able to deliver 2 meals for every $1 donated.
