The Building Committee met with Consultants and Builders last Tuesday and received an update on the next phase of our rebuilding works.
From Monday, 31 August 2026, contractors will be on site working within the complex. Initial works will include electrical and other essential services in preparation for the removal of the existing roof, which will commence immediately afterwards. Once the roof has been removed, a new roof will be installed. During this period, no internal works can be undertaken, as it is not possible to work beneath the roof while these works are in progress.
Following the roof installation, contractors will reinstate the air-conditioning system, solar panels and associated services. This is a significant stage of the project.
Once the roof works are complete, internal works will recommence and are expected to continue into early next year, with the aim of reopening the gaming room, café and bar upon completion.
In the meantime, the Committee continues to work closely with the architects on Stage Two of the redevelopment, which includes the new kitchen, bistro, sports bar, playroom and function room. We look forward to sharing these plans with members as they progress.
Important Site Access Changes – Effective 31 August 2026
From 31 August 2026, the main car park and construction area will become a strictly restricted work site.
No unauthorised person is permitted to enter the main car park or construction area, whether on foot or by vehicle.
Temporary fencing will be installed in front of the new Cenotaph and across the old Cenotaph to restrict access from the side and rear.
Signage will be placed on the front fence advising of the restricted access.
An open main gate is not an invitation to enter the site unless you are a contractor engaged by Skyline Builders.
Access to the Administration Office, bowls rink, accessible toilets and rotunda will be via the top gate. The Administration Office will continue to operate on a limited basis as required.
Committee members, bowlers and the Greenkeeper will continue to use their authorised access keys.
Skyline Builders have advised that Pennant Bowls cannot be played on site during this stage of construction due to the number of contractors on site and the associated safety risks.
The site is under the control of Skyline Builders and is subject to Occupational Health and Safety requirements, WorkSafe Victoria regulations and the Sunshine RSL Committee's duty of care to members and visitors. Anyone authorised to enter via the top gate must exercise caution and comply with all site safety requirements.
Remembrance Day – 11 November 2026
We are hopeful that this year's Remembrance Day Service will be held in the adjoining park beside the main car park on 11 November 2026.
