MEET JODIE & ANNA

Our Meet & Greet coordinators are quiet achievers who play a vital role in shaping every experience.

While every volunteer contributes to making these rides possible, the Meet & Greet teams deserve a special mention and “Shout Out". They are the first warm and welcoming faces our passengers encounter; offering reassurance, comfort, and genuine connection. With a friendly chat, a listening ear, and even something as simple as a lap rug to keep out the chill, they ensure each passenger feels safe, valued, and truly seen.

Cycling Without Age Sunshine Coast proudly delivers rides for both the general community and dedicated rides for residents of 5 Aged Care facilities. One such partner is Estia Health Maroochydore, where fortnightly rides take residents on gentle journeys around the picturesque lake. At this location, something special happens, the Meet & Greet role is beautifully shared by Estia’s own Lifestyle Assistants. Working hand-in-hand with CWA volunteers, they help coordinate residents, assist with boarding and disembarking the trishaws, and bring a sense of familiarity and trust that makes all the difference. And yes, they even keep the team fuelled with a welcome cup of coffee.

Anna and Jodie, long-standing members of the Estia team, have been part of this partnership since its early days. With years of experience; Jodie for seven years and Anna for over two and a half years they’ve built deep, trusting relationships with their residents.

This connection is invaluable, especially for those who may feel hesitant before their first ride. With warmth, encouragement, and a touch of humour, Anna and Jodie have a wonderful way of putting residents at ease, often turning uncertainty into excitement.

Both have witnessed firsthand the joy these rides bring. They actively encourage residents and their families to take part, knowing the simple pleasure of feeling the sun on their skin and the breeze in their hair can be transformative. Time and again, they see spirits lifted, smiles returned, and anticipation grow for the next outing.

It all begins with a warm welcome—and thanks to these incredible people, the journey starts long before the wheels begin to turn.

Anna & Jodie have kindly consented to the photo and article being shared on the Cycling Without Age Sunshine Coast page. If you would like to volunteer and want to know how to reach Anna & Jodie for a chat. Email:

The new financial year is upon us once again, which means it is time to renew your membership.

For just $15 per year, per household, you can become a valued member of the Sunshine Cove Residents Association and stay connected with everything happening in our community.

Members who joined since our Christmas Party in November 2025, along with members who renew their membership during the month of June, will go into the draw to win a set of Apple AirPods generously donated to SCRA.

Membership runs on a financial year basis from July to June, so if you do not renew by 30 June 2026, your membership will lapse.

Since Council has advised that we can no longer tape information and invitations to rubbish bins, the best way to stay in the loop is by joining us. Members receive exclusive updates, invitations to community events, and important Council news delivered straight to their email inbox.

Our community events are becoming larger and more successful each year and, with this growth, comes increased expense. We really do need as many residents as possible to join the association and help support these events.

Don’t miss out — support your neighbourhood and sign up today!

Estia Health Aged Care facility in Amity Ave, Sunshine Cove, needs volunteers to push our mobility-impaired neighbours in wheelchairs around our wonderful parkland and boardwalk on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9.30am (weather permitting) for about 45 minutes.

This would be a fantastic way for Cove Residents to get exercise while meeting new friends. If you are interested, please phone (07) 5391 4800.

Hey CoveDwellers!

This is your friendly resident IT Tech / Cybersecurity expert offering you the inside scoop on the latest in GenAI DeepFake technology.

GetReal was founded by a colleague of mine to combat the proliferation of scams using technology and has been focused quite heavily on deepfake videos as of late.

Do yourself a favour and check out their resources when you have some time. Forwarned is forearmed, and educating family and friends is the key to beating these scammers at their own game.

A powerful reminder from a colleague of mine from Griffith University shows that even experts in financial crime can fall victim to scams.

One professor recently shared how, during a busy day, he received a text about an overcharged toll. Without thinking, he clicked the link — and it turned out to be a scam. It’s a clear example of how being rushed or distracted can make any of us vulnerable.

“Scamming ruins people’s lives,” says Chai. “And the worst thing is that it targets the vulnerable.” Every year that you get older, he points out, you’re four per cent more likely to fall victim to a scam. Illiterate people are also high on the list, as are those in remote areas, with loneliness a major factor.

Professor Andreas Chai’s five steps to beating a scam

Do your own research. Google the business to check its legitimacy and ensure its email and contact details match what you find online.

DON”T RUSH…… Take your time. Don’t rush into anything – so you can investigate and think it through.

Talk to friends and family. Run it past people who can provide advice or a sense check.

Never pay any money or share personal details. The situation will only get worse.

Be aware of the tactics. Scammers will exploit timing to contact you when you’re vulnerable, such as when you’re expecting a package or an invoice.

Over the past 12 months, the Sunshine Cove Residents Association has remained strongly committed to protecting and enhancing the lifestyle we all value here in Sunshine Cove.

From ongoing engagement with Sunshine Coast Council to regular communication with residents, our focus has been clear: to ensure that growth in our region is balanced with safety, liveability, and the unique character of our community.

Our advocacy in action – Wises Road / Wises Farm Development....

The proposed development at Wises Farm has been one of the most significant planning issues affecting our community in recent years. The project, now approved by the Sunshine Coast Council for about 420 dwellings along with business and community spaces, marks a major change on our doorstep. (Sunshine Coast News)

Your Association has actively represented Sunshine Cove residents by submitting submissions, engaging with councillors, and appearing on the news to raise concerns about traffic, safety, and the connection road. While we support careful development, we also prioritise safety and the liveability of the cove.

This demonstrates what constructive, persistent community advocacy can achieve.

Wombat crossings and local safety initiatives.....

Beyond major developments, we have continued to advocate for safer streets within Sunshine Cove. This includes ongoing discussions about pedestrian safety measures such as wombat crossings, traffic calming, and improved infrastructure to support families, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Our goal has always been clear: to keep Sunshine Cove a safe, connected, and welcoming place as our region expands.

A strong community voice.....

Over the past year, we have:
• Represented residents in planning consultations and submissions
• Engaged directly with the council and elected representatives on green space management
• Held community events twice a year to encourage deeper connections amongst Cove dwellers
• Monthly Members only lunch and dinner events, book club, mahjong, regular card playing and many coffee mornings.
• Represented our community in town planning activities, like the dog park 25-year plan
• Communicated regularly with our community through updates and forums
• Advocated for practical, safety-focused outcomes
• Supported initiatives that enhance the Sunshine Cove lifestyle

Importantly, the high level of community participation, evident in numerous submissions and ongoing feedback, underscores the importance of a united voice. (Sunshine Coast News)

Looking ahead....

Development will proceed across the Sunshine Coast—but the way it occurs is important to your residents' association.
We will keep working positively with the council, our sponsors, and our community to achieve outcomes that respect our neighbourhood, maintain our standard of living, and focus on safety.

Thank you to every volunteer who has contributed, to our members who have raised concerns, to our committee members who have attended meetings, and to those who have supported our efforts over the past 12 months. Your voice makes a difference.

Together, we will keep standing for Sunshine Cove.

Hey Cove Dwellers! 🎉

Not long to go until we begin to see the Feb-April Sunshine Cove Residents' Association Newsletter begin to appear in letterboxes.

Due to a delay in putting this quarter's newsletter together, give the team another week to get these delivered to the whole cove.

If you haven't received a copy by the 17th... give me a shout out here with your street name and I will ensure that we correct any oversight.

Public Service Announcement from a Member of our Committee who works in CyberSecurity.

I saw another interesting scam this week, one of our staff here in Australia got a phone call from someone purporting to be an investigator from the AFP.

They allegedly had a bunch of files that had been stolen and had the email address of this staff member, but not the phone number and needed to talk to him.

This in itself is not unusual as we work closely with government departments.

They directed her to a link (redacted here so you don't go and click on it) with an existing case-ID in the link, providing a degree of legitimacy.

They then tell our staff member that this is the email address associated with the case is [email protected] - (first red flag.... this is not quite an official AFP email address).

Second Red flag, this form is from ASD a department seperate from the Aust Fed Police and a link to reporting cybersecurity incidents, not providing victims updates on cases.

Upon clicking the link, the attacker gets a One Time Password which they provide to the victim over the phone, allowing the victim to login and view the dummy information they have populated.

The next step from here is a hop skip and a jump to transferring some of your hard-earned crypto into the attacker's wallet.

They had our staff engaged right up to when they mentioned the crypto, then with our staff member being unable to keep this scammer unaware that we knew it was a scam.

Moral of the Story.... anyone that contacts you. Whether that be from the Aust Fed Police, the Aust Signals Directorate, Microsoft, McAfee, Norton Antivirus, your bank etc...... is NOT who they say they are.

These official channels or any software providers will NEVER call you directly.

Never trust anyone calling to talk about technology, accounts or to verify even the most innocent of details.

If in doubt reach out to a family member you trust to talk to them and always report suspicious activity to:
