Girl power on show at the OzHarvest Sunshine Coast warehouse in K***a Park today! With Gary and Jenny away, it was all hands on deck, sorting wonderful produce collected by our volunteers at the Fishermans Road Markets and Noosa Farmers Market yesterday. Special thanks to Rosie Lloyd-Giblett who not only helped with food sorting and warehouse clean but delivered 9 crates of nutritious food to schools between Coolum and Noosa. Rosie is a well-known and very busy artist but she still finds time to volunteer for OzHarvest Queensland. Thank you, Tourism Noosa for our complimentary stand at the Noosa Food & Wine Festival - we had a blast promoting the work of OzHarvest and selling some great products made with rescued food by OzVentures. He’s cooked for the late Queen Elizabeth II, musicians including Michael Jackson, been Executive Chef at British Airways, Head of Inflight Services at Qantas, and been the chef for elite sportspeople. Now Tony Crossin is bringing his culinary skills and compassion to OzHarvest’s Cooking for a Cause (CFAC) on the Sunshine Coast. CFAC is a rewarding team-building event for companies/businesses, providing an opportunity for staff members to bond while preparing nourishing food for those in need. It is held in TAFE Queensland’s beautifully appointed kitchen where a team from Auto&General Insurance Company Ltd gathered last Friday. Meet Sunshine Coast and Gympie volunteer, Lindsay Walters who has been helping in the Gympie area for the past 12 months. Lindsay retired after “being on the tools” for many years and says he loves volunteering for OzHarvest. Today he collected the last batch of beautiful button squash grown by Gympie State High School’s Ag Department. So grateful for all the support of our suppliers in Gympie - and for volunteers like Lindsay!

Billed as a “joyful mix of nutrition education, cooking, social connection and belonging”, OzHarvest’s NEST program is making a positive impact on the Sunshine Coast with participants taking part in a 6-week course to teach them easy ways to cook and eat healthily on a budget. To celebrate National Volunteer Week, today NEST Coordinator, Beck Donovan invited OzHarvest Sunshine Coast and Gympie volunteers to learn more about the program and then cook a delicious lunch of Thai fish cakes and a green salad, followed by a yummy avocado chocolate mousse. Huge thanks to Beck and QLD Coordinator, Sarah Sigley for a great event!

It’s National Volunteer Week, Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering and an opportunity to thank all those who give up their time to support local communities. Today, OzHarvest Sunshine Coast and Gympie shines a light on the dedicated volunteers who turn up at the Fishermans Road Markets every Sunday, come hail or shine, to collect excess produce for our charity partners. Yesterday the team included Cathy Blackett, Laurie Thorp, Catherine Hollis and Tracy Stafford. Huge thanks to these hardworking OzHarvest vollies.
