Day 5 of 50 Conventions in 50 Days: The Negative Double ♠️♥️

Ever feel “robbed” when your partner opens and the opponent jumps in?

You’re sitting there with 4 hearts… and now you can’t bid them at the 1-level. 😩

That’s where the Negative Double saves the day.

It’s not for penalty.
It’s not for punishment.

It’s your way of saying:

“Partner, I have the OTHER major.”

Bridge is a language.
This is one of its most important sentences.

Day 3 of 50 Conventions in 50 Days: STRONG 2♣ — The Emergency Brake 🚨

Ever open 1♥…
Partner passes…
And you realize you just missed game? 😩

That’s exactly why 2♣ exists.

Strong 2♣ says:
“I have a HUGE hand. Nobody panic. We are not stopping below game.”

It’s artificial.
It doesn’t promise clubs.
It just says: This auction is not over.

For beginners, this is a game-changer because it removes two big fears:
• “What if partner passes?”
• “How do I show my monster hand?”

With 2♣, you park the auction and take control.

Day 2: 50 Conventions in 50 Days. I have actually signed up to her website and have followed her YouTube channel - but I am only sharing the content that Tracey has on Facebook for all to see. I really like her graphics, and online she has explanations and videos demonstrating everything. I am a fan :) Probably most useful for players in our club who have taken lessons in the last few years :)

If you’ve ever opened 1NT and watched your partner bid a major… but YOU ended up dummy? 😩

We can do better.

Jacoby Transfers:
✔ Keeps the strong hand hidden
✔ Gets to the right major fit
✔ Works with weak OR strong hands
✔ Makes bridge feel organized instead of chaotic

Rule of “One Under.”
Bid the suit below the one you actually have.

Simple. Powerful. Elegant.

I have found the Rule of 7 very helpful in No Trumps when you have Aces and spaces in your two hands. Thanks to the member who shared us that great tool.

I was asked via email for help on understanding what stoppers are. Most bridge players learn about points before they learn about STOPPERS…
…but stoppers are what keep your Notrump contracts alive.

A stopper is protection in a suit that prevents the opponents from cashing a long run of tricks before you can establish your own winners.

Think of them as:
🛑 brakes
🛡 suit protection
🎯 insurance for your Notrump contract

Examples of common stoppers:
✔ Ax
✔ KQx
✔ AQ
✔ QJT

And partial stoppers:
✔ Qx
✔ Kxx
✔ J10xx

If you’ve ever gone down in 3NT because the opponents ran a suit immediately… you probably didn’t have enough stoppers.

One of the most important bridge skills is learning:
• when you actually HAVE a stopper
• when you only have a half-stopper
• and when to ask partner for help before bidding Notrump.

Bonus tip:
Sometimes even with the Ace, the best play is to HOLD UP and duck the suit before winning.

That’s where the famous “Rule of Seven” comes in.

Bridge isn’t just about counting points.
It’s about timing, communication, and protection.
