U3A is designed for people who no longer work full-time but wish to continue to learn and broaden their horizons.

U3A Sunshine Coast has over 200 classes and activities provided by volunteers to promote active lifestyles for mature age members. U3A offers academic and skills subjects, arts and crafts, exercise and social activities. Classes are conducted in various venues on the Sunshine Coast. The year is divided into four terms, similar to school terms. The speaker and topic change every week or two weeks. Lectures are held in: the U3A Lecture Room at the University, Caloundra, Maleny, Mudjimba and Nambour. Social: Throughout the year various social activities are organised. These have included day trips to the theatre, restaurants and long, group tours. Health, Fitness and Sports: Groups include: aquacise, cycling, table tennis, tennis, ten-pin bowling, swimming, gentle stretching exercise, gym fitness, Tai Chi, Yoga, croquet, golf, lawn bowls and badminton. U3A has a close relationship with the University of the Sunshine Coast and members may sit-in on lectures at the University. U3A is an all-volunteer organisation. Membership of U3A Sunshine Coast is $40 per calendar year. To join U3A you use the Membership Pages. where you may also enrol in classes and activities. The annual membership fee covers as many classes/activities as you wish to attend. Note: Some classes may have a waiting list. Notionally, classes are all free but some venue locations levy a fee for U3A to use, so a number of classes have a moderate term fee to help cover that venue cost. Each year, U3A Sunshine Coast runs an Open Day or Expo where you can see displays of most of the classes, and meet the tutors.

Join a COMMUNITY live LONGER:
The importance of finding your community.
In this CBS interview, Jane Fonda talks about the importance of finding community as we grow older — connecting with others, discovering shared interests, having a sense of purpose and building friendships. Whatever your views on American politics or celebrities, this is a global message we can all relate to.
And isn't this what U3A is all about? 😊
It's about so much more than attending a class. It's about meeting people, trying something new, sharing a laugh, learning together and feeling part of something.
We may not be able to control everything that comes with getting older, but we can keep learning, connecting and making room for new friendships along the way.
Because life is richer when we share it with others.
As Jane mentions, joining an art class is one way to find your community. At U3A Sunshine Coast, we have a wonderful range of art and craft classes where you can explore your creativity, learn new skills and make friends along the way.

If a class is full this year, don't be discouraged — keep an eye out when enrolments open in the new year! And if you have an idea for a class you'd love to see offered, or would like to share your own skills by starting a class, we'd love to hear from you. Contact our Courses Coordinator to discuss your idea. You never know where a new interest might lead!

Trivia Afternoon – Coffee, Nibbles & Fun!
A Reminder to all our registered trivia teams the U3A Sunshine Coast Trivia Afternoon is this Sunday, 11 October! Why not arrive a little early and enjoy a freshly made coffee before the fun begins!

☕ On the Go Espresso - Mobile Coffee Van will be out the front of the Community Centre, say hello to Dave who will be ready to serve you before trivia starts and again during our break about an hour into the afternoon.

Doors open from 12.30 pm, so there’s plenty of time to get settled, grab your coffee and nibbles, catch up with friends and get ready to put those trivia brains to work!

🕐 Trivia kicks off at 1.00 pm.

COOKING WITH THERMOMIX: Tutor Karen Vander-Wal

Have a Thermomix sitting on your kitchen bench that you’d love to use more? Or perhaps you’re curious about what these clever machines can really do?

Join our upcoming U3A Sunshine Coast class and discover new ways to cook, create and enjoy your Thermomix!

You’ll explore its features, get inspired by new recipes and see the TM7 model in action. And the best part? You’ll get to taste the delicious creations made during the session! 😋

🪐 Have you ever seen Saturn with your own eyes?

This Sunday, 4th October, could be a great night to give it a try! Saturn will be visible in the evening sky, and you don’t need to be an expert astronomer to find it.

There’s something rather special about spotting a distant planet for yourself — and knowing that those tiny points of light are actually worlds far beyond our own.

A fun afternoon of Mexican Trains!

Yesterday, we enjoyed an afternoon of fun, laughter and friendship at Forever Fables Café in Montville.

A big thank you to Karen Davidson, who organised the afternoon and brought together more than 20 players for a game of Mexican Trains. Karen invited friends from other groups she has been part of over the years, including people she has shared many walking adventures with, along with some U3A members.

Before the games began, Karen spoke about the importance of social connection, friendship and staying engaged for our wellbeing and brain health, and also recognised U3A as a wonderful place to find connection and friendship.

Then it was time to play! Some were familiar with Mexican Trains while others were learning something completely new — but everyone enjoyed an afternoon of good company, laughter and fun.

Thank you, Karen, for organising such a lovely afternoon, and for capturing these great photos.

ACOUSTIC INSTRUMENTS SINGALONG: Come along and make some music with us! 🎶

Do you play an acoustic instrument? Enjoy singing along? Or simply love the idea of making music with a friendly group of people?

Our Acoustic Instruments Singalong is a relaxed, non-tuition social music group.

Our first semester was a terrific success, with members playing guitar, ukulele, mandolin, harmonica and tin whistle — and other acoustic instruments are very welcome too. We would love a fiddle, viola and double bass.

You don't need to be a great singer or accomplished musician. Enthusiasm and enjoyment are far more important! There are no lessons, no auditions and no pressure — just music, friendship and plenty of fun.

After the music session, those who wish can continue the conversation and friendship over coffee at Vrina Café. ☕😊
