On Tuesday 26 May, we were honoured to host the Bass Coast community at the Penguin Parade Visitor Centre for National Sorry Day.
It was a powerful and deeply emotional gathering - at times confronting, honest and profoundly moving.
Throughout the day, stories were shared about the lasting impact of the Stolen Generations and the continuing effects of families and communities being separated through systemic injustice. To listen and learn from survivors, families and community members was a privilege, and a reminder of why truth-telling, truth-listening and truth-acting matters.
The event brought people together in a spirit of respect, reflection and healing, creating space for conversation, connection and shared understanding.
We thank Uncle Shane Clarke for leading a moving Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony on behalf of Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, and the Bass Coast Reconciliation Network for bringing this important annual gathering to life.
At Phillip Island Nature Parks, we know reconciliation is not a single moment or event. It is an ongoing commitment to listening, learning, showing up, building relationships, and walking together toward a more just future.
