At Barking Gecko Arts, we believe creativity is not a privilege - it's a human right. In 2025, our programs reached 95,050 children, families and educators across Western Australia. 70% of that engagement happened outside inner metro Perth.

But the need is still greater than our reach.

On Monday, our Year 11 students took a trip to the theatre to watch Barking Gecko's performance of 'The Stones', giving them the rare opportunity to watch a professional production of the same script they were performing for assessment that week.
They also took part in a Q&A with the performers, gaining insight into acting processes and building a career in The Arts. Student feedback was incredibly positive, with many saying the performance inspired refinement of their own work including the expression of line delivery and purposeful movement around the stage.
Students also reflected on the importance of themes like peer pressure and the consequences of actions, which hit even harder after seeing them performed live.

As part of our season of The Stones, we've teamed up with Hello Initiative., a WA charity that takes old, unused smartphones, wipes them, refurbishes them, and gets them into the hands of young people in the youth justice system. The phones help them attend court, check in with support workers, access mental health services, complete community orders, and stay connected to school and family. Simple intervention, surprisingly big impact (78% of recipients reduce offending, 79% complete their community orders).

If you've got an old phone gathering dust at home, bring it to us! Broken screens are fine. Just back up anything you want to keep, sign out of your iCloud or Google account, and do a factory reset before handing it over. Drop your phone off at our office in Subiaco Arts Centre, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.
