The latest The NT News fishing column highlighted exactly why the Top End continues to produce some of Australia's most exciting barramundi action. The 2026 Top End Barra Series (TEBS) Round 3 on the Adelaide River delivered incredible fishing, memorable stories and quality fish, with competitors finding barra right throughout the system and some outstanding catches recorded.
Congratulations to John Kiers on taking out the Old School category of the round, while Kalan Matthews landed the biggest fish of the round with an impressive 120cm barramundi and also won the Open category. Young angler Michael Bates also impressed with a magnificent 99cm barra, proving the future of Top End fishing is in good hands.
At the same time, the Barra Nationals produced record-breaking results, with an incredible 2,237 barramundi caught across the competition, a remarkable achievement and a testament to the quality of fishing currently on offer in the Northern Territory.

A huge congratulations to all competitors, volunteers, organisers, sponsors and supporters who helped make both events such outstanding successes, especially given the challenging circumstances at the Daly River post flood devastation. From family-friendly moments and junior anglers landing trophy fish, to record catches and the efforts of some of the country's most elite competitive barramundi anglers, these events continue to showcase the depth of fishing talent in the Northern Territory and reinforce why the NT is widely regarded as the barramundi fishing capital of Australia.
