🇭🇷 What an Amazing Day! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Croatian Culture Workshop at King Tom Club last Sunday— what an incredible turnout! So many excited kids and supportive parents from our Croatian community made the day truly special. ❤️

The kids explored inventors, history, language, games, and crafts — and brought so much energy and curiosity! 🎨✨

A BIG thank you to King Tom Club for hosting, and to Prof. Luka Budak, Prof. Ana Bruning, Dr. Marijana Borić , Prof. Tomislava Majic and the Croatian schools for their support.

And of course, hvala to all the amazing parents and kids who made this event unforgettable! 🇭🇷💙

Last Wednesday, 19 November, the CSF had the extraordinary honor of collaborating with our visiting Croatian academics, Marijana Boric and Tomislava Majic, alongside our esteemed honorary board members, Ana Bruning and Luka Budak.

The event featured a captivating exhibition celebrating some of Croatia's most renowned scientists, Faust Vrancic and Marin Getaldic.

We were inspired by insightful presentations covering a wide range of topics: the recognition of the Croatian language in Australia, the Croatian language and its defining characteristics, the remarkable contributions of Croatian scientists to global innovation, and the journey of Croatia’s post-1991 war economy, including what the future may hold.

We are deeply grateful for this remarkable exchange of knowledge, culture, and ideas. Moments like these remind us of the power of collaboration and the lasting bonds forged when we come together to learn and celebrate excellence.

Prošle srijede, 19. studenoga, Zaklada hrvatskih studija imala je izvanrednu čast surađivati s našim gostujućim hrvatskim profesoricama, Marijanom Borić i Tomislavom Majić, uz naše cijenjene počasne članove Upravnog odbora, Anu Bruning i Luku Budaka.

Događaj je uključivao fascinantnu izložbu posvećenu nekima od najpoznatijih hrvatskih znanstvenika, Faustu Vrančiću i Marinu Getaldiću.

Bili smo nadahnuti inspirativnim predavanjima koja su obuhvatila širok raspon tema: priznavanje hrvatskog jezika u Australiji, hrvatski jezik i njegove karakteristične osobine, iznimne doprinose hrvatskih znanstvenika globalnoj inovaciji te put hrvatskog gospodarstva nakon rata 1991. godine, uključujući i ono što budućnost može donijeti.

Duboko smo zahvalni na ovoj izvanrednoj razmjeni znanja, kulture i ideja. Trenuci poput ovoga podsjećaju nas na snagu suradnje i trajne veze koje se stvaraju kada se okupljamo kako bismo učili i slavili izvrsnost.

🕯🕊️ Remembering Škabrnja 🕊️🕯

More than three decades have passed since the tragedy that struck the small Croatian village of Škabrnja, near Zadar, in November 1991.

During the Homeland War, Serb forces entered the village — destroying homes, desecrating sacred places, and taking the lives of over 80 innocent Croatian civilians and defenders.

A new documentary film brings their stories back into focus — reminding us of the unimaginable suffering endured and the courage shown by those who refused to surrender their homeland or their humanity.

Through original footage and testimony, the film preserves the memory of the victims, the ruins of the village, and the deep scars left on this proud community.

Among those who have worked tirelessly to keep the memory alive are Zorica Gregurić, who helped bring this story to the screen, and legendary Škabrnja defender Marko Miljanić, who continues to embody the spirit of resilience.

🕊️ Škabrnja is more than a place — it is a symbol of sacrifice, courage, and remembrance.

Više od tri desetljeća prošlo je od tragedije koja je zadesila malo hrvatsko selo Škabrnju, nedaleko od Zadra, u studenome 1991. godine.

Tijekom Domovinskog rata, srpske snage ušle su u selo i razorile domove, oskvrnule sveta mjesta i oduzela živote više od 80 nedužnih hrvatskih civila i branitelja.

Novi dokumentarni film vraća njihove priče u fokus podsjećajući nas na nezamislive patnje koje su pretrpjeli i hrabrost onih koji su odbili predati svoju domovinu ili svoje dostojanstvo.
Kroz originalnu snimku i svjedočanstva, film čuva sjećanje na žrtve, ruševine sela i duboke rane nanesene ovoj ponosnoj zajednici.

Među onima koji su neumorno radili da se sjećanje održi živim su Zorica Gregurić, koja je pomogla u stvaranju ove priče, i legendarni branitelj Škabrnje Marko Miljanić, koji nastavlja utjelovljivati duh otpora.

🕊️ Škabrnja nije samo mjesto. Ona je simbol žrtve, hrabrosti i sjećanja.
Sjećamo se. Odajemo počast. Nikad ne zaboravljamo.🕊️
