🦋We have some new friends making their home right here at Strathalbyn ELC!!

We are currenty caring for monarch butterfly caterpillars, which families can observe in the foyer. Children have been watching the caterpillars munch through milkweed leaves and learning that monarch caterpillars rely on this plant for food.

This experience has encouraged valuable conversations in the outdoor learning environment about caring for plants and protecting butterfly habitats. Everyone is now excited to watch the caterpillars form their chrysalises and eventually emerge as butterflies.

We’re officially a Flying Start partner !

We’re excited to be partnering with the South Australian government to deliver Flying Start, a 3-year-old preschool program designed to strengthen the quality and equity of early learning.

Focused on age-appropriate, play-based learning the program will be led by a qualified early childhood teacher.

The program follows the Early Years Learning Framework and is designed to strengthen children’s development.

As a partner services, we have access to more support and training for our teachers and educators, and extra help for the children and families where it’s needed most.

Flying Start preschool will be available at our services from Term 1 2027.
