🐨 Save The Koala Day 🐨

Today we celebrate all koalas but specifically the beautiful mums and joeys who remind us why the work we do at KOALA RESCUE Inc matters so much.

Over recent months, we’ve rescued mums and their precious joeys, cared for them through illness and injury, watched tiny joeys grow stronger, and had the incredible joy of seeing some families return to the wild where they belong. Others are still in care, growing, healing and preparing for the day they too can be released.

Every rescue has a story, and every release is a little victory for koalas. 🐨

Happy “Save The Koala Day” — and thank you for helping us give these beautiful koalas a second chance. 🧡

🐨 When Eloise came into care at the end of April, she weighed just 1.82kg. Fast forward to her recent weight check and she’s a very healthy 4.305kg! 🎉

But Eloise clearly had other ideas about being weighed… 😂

The second she got the chance, she made a great escape and climbed the closest thing she could find — a wooden doorframe!

We think she was saying, “That’s enough of this weighing business!” 🤣

Eloise is growing beautifully and showing us just how strong she’s becoming. It won’t be too much longer and she will be ready to be released back to her real forever home.

Mum Meg and her little joey Mog have had a bit of a scary time together💔. They were both hit by a car, and in the confusion Meg climbed a nearby tree. Thankfully, the caller stayed with little Mog, holding him safely and keeping him warm and protected in a blanket until our rescuers arrived. 🥹🧡

Our rescuers were able to bring Meg safely down from the tree and due to being late they stayed in care overnight before being taken to Adelaide Koala Wildlife Centre the following day for a thorough assessment.

Amazingly there were no major injuries found, but they were to remain in care to be closely monitored, as we know that some injuries and complications can take time to show.

Little Mog has shown a few issues, but so far he is responding well to extra treatment and plenty of TLC 🧡. Poor Meg has also had a setback and has developed mastitis. She has been very flat and sad, but she is now receiving medication to treat the infection and will be reassessed soon.

For now, Meg and Mog are receiving amazing care, treatment and support from their carers. We are keeping everything crossed for this beautiful mum and her precious joey 🐨🐨

Please keep Meg & Mog in your thoughts as they continue their journey to recovery. 🌿
