MUMSS (Mothers United for Maternity Services Stanthorpe) is focused on seeing an improvement to maternity and birthing facilities to service Stanthorpe and surrounding areas. A collaboration between the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service, Stanthorpe Hospital and representatives from MUMSS delivered a first class birthing space for women in September 2014. MUMSS focus is now for all women bi
rthing at Stanthorpe to receive continuity of care from a known midwife.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

Mothers United for Maternity Services Stanthorpe (MUMSS) plans to begin lobbying and fundraising for upgraded maternity facilities for the Stanthorpe Hospital. The Stanthorpe Hospital is only one of three public birthing facilities in Queensland that does not provide bathrooms in the labour ward and has not been upgraded for over 30 years. We believe that women in regional areas deserve the same opportunity for privacy, dignity and comfort as our city sisters and that the hospital deserves facililities to match the quality of medical and nursing staff. MUMSS will collaberate with mothers groups and medical providers to develop a strategy for the implementation of this project that at the minimum would see upgraded labour rooms, including private bathrooms, and at the most a complete refurbishment of the maternity ward. The strategy is contingent on building a strong argument to present to key stakeholders, including state and federal government.
