Hey Everyone,
Here is a little information on the Stanley safer place at the Stanley Recreation Reserve for those new to the community.
The Stanley Safer Place is located at the Stanley Recreation Reserve on Pioneer Road.
A CFA "safer place" refers to a Neighbourhood Safer Place (NSP), also known as a Bushfire Place of Last Resort (BPLR), which offers some protection during extreme fires but is not a guaranteed safe haven. Understand that an NSP is a backup when all else fails, not a primary strategy.
What they are:
• Last Resort: Only for when your primary plans (leaving early, staying to defend) fail.
• Assessed Locations: Areas with cleared vegetation and separation from hazards, often sports fields, parks, or halls.
• Signposted: Look for green and white signs saying "Neighbourhood Safer Place" or "Bushfire Place of Last Resort".
What they are NOT:
• Fireproof: They don't offer the same protection as a well-built home or a dedicated fire shelter.
• Evacuation Centres: They are different from Community Fire Refuges or Relief Centres.
Key Advice:
• Plan to Leave Early: This is the safest option, as stated by the CFA (Country Fire Authority).
• Know the Difference: Understand that an
NSP is a backup when all else fails, not a primary strategy.
In summary, while a Neighbourhood Safer Place offers a chance of survival when trapped, your best safety lies in early planning and leaving high-risk areas before a fire starts.
