Passon. Excellence. Family.

The University of Queensland Touch Club was founded in 1984 back when the competition was based on Sunday mornings rather than Friday nights through a “home and away” competition which saw teams travelling all over Brisbane.

By the late 80’s touch was moving to consolidate the number of clubs playing in the main competition which saw the introduction of a rule that required teams to field A and B grade teams in both men’s and women’s. Rebels was a team mostly based out of Ipswich full of mostly UQ Alumni who needed the UQ club to fulfill the requirements of having B and C grade teams. While UQ lacked enough players and coaches to be competitive in A grade the Rebels merger with UQ gave the B and C grade players something to aspire to as players. This merger was the birth of Uni Rebels as we knew it, the Women’s Premier division were premiers 5 times in a 6 year span between 1986 and 1991 which featured current Women’s Premier coach and #UQRebelsLifeMember Renee Murphy. The Men’s team were also dominant during this time winning 4 straight premierships between 1987 and 1990.

Fast forward to 2017 and the #TeamUQ rebrand through UQ Sport which saw Uni Rebels undergo one final name change to UQ Rebels which aligned with the wishes of the university of having all UQ sporting clubs under the one banner while we were able to continue to honour the legacy and origins of this great club!

We pride ourselves on these three core values:
