So, what does the latest MPI actually show? The headline is Mexico recorded its largest-ever improvement in peacefulness in 2025, with nearly 7,000 fewer homicides than the year before, a 22.7% drop.

Over 113,000 people have gone missing since 2010. And the fragmentation of major criminal organisations, while a sign of disruption, carries its own risks.
Both the progress - and the challenges that remain - are real. That's why independent data matters to help inform citizens, governments and the international community.
