Denise and Gypsy are turning a love of dogs and a passion for cooking and community into something truly special!

Denise came up with the fabulous idea of creating beautiful, quality dog food from food that might otherwise go to waste - and donating it to help people and their pooches doing it tough through the Community Centre.

It’s a wonderful way to reduce waste while making sure pets in need can enjoy fresh, tasty and nutritious treats. And, according to Denise, every batch is taste-tested by Gypsy! 😋🐶

Pebbles (on the right) also managed to sneak in for a taste test — and gave it a very enthusiastic approval!

A huge thank you to Denise for your creativity, generosity and initiative. It is exactly the kind of community spirit we love. 💕🐕

Every Thursday, Kristen and her beautiful little princess brighten our Community Dinner at Christchurch Community Centre with their warmth, kindness, and smiles. 💛 Whether she’s sharing a laugh, enjoying a meal, or simply being present, Kristen reminds us that community is built through the simple act of showing up for one another. And of course, her adorable furry companion brings just as much joy, melting hearts wherever she goes!

We’re so grateful to have wonderful people like Kristen as part of our community family. It’s friendships, compassion, and moments like these that make every Thursday so special. Everyone is welcome around our table, and there’s always room for one more.

💛 What an incredible initiative! Orange Sky is doing so much more than providing free showers and laundry facilities—they’re restoring dignity, hope, and human connection for people doing it tough. We’re so grateful to have them at Christ Church Community Centre every Thursday, making a real difference in the lives of our local community. Thank you to every volunteer who gives their time and heart to this amazing service. 🧡🚐

I’d like to tell you a story about John, one of our valuable community members in the City of Port Phillip in his 80s.

John recently suffered from a serious case of pneumonia. A passionate gardener, he could no longer keep up with the garden he had lovingly curated over many years.

For just one hour a week over a month, our Garden Nomad volunteer Lucie, helped bring his garden back to life.

The result? John regained a sense of pride and control over his surroundings, and Lucie experienced the joy and purpose that comes from making a real difference in someone’s life.

This is why Garden Nomads matters. We support people who can’t afford services or are waiting for funding, helping them maintain their dignity and independence.

If you have just one hour a fortnight for some light gardening work, we’d love to hear from you. You don’t need tools or a car.

Out waiting list is growing and we need all the help we can get.

🍓🍒 Our journey to Zero Food Waste continues!

A huge thank you Hassan, one of our Community Services students, for helping train our volunteers and students in reducing food waste.

We’re fortunate to receive rescued food from SecondBite FoodFilled and OzHarvest Melbourne and others. Any food we can’t use is turned into compost and worm castings, and the rest goes into our City of Port Phillip FOGO bins.

Helping people and the environment on a daily basis is challenging and rewarding ♻️👥

Our Emergency Relief shelves are running low. ❤️

As we approach the end of the financial year, we’re asking for your support. Every week, local individuals and families rely on us for essential pantry items, and right now our shelves need replenishing.

If you’re considering an End of Financial Year donation, your generosity will help us stock up on canned goods, long-life foods and other everyday essentials.

Every donation, big or small,
makes a real difference.

Thank you for helping us care for our community. ❤️

Christ Church Community Centre (St Kildas Little Mission) is committed to creating an environment which is welcoming, inclusive and supportive for the diverse range of people in our local community.

This is not a bad meal at all! 🍽️

Tonight’s main course is a hearty beef meat pie with chips, gravy, broccolini and caramelised carrots.

Every Thursday, we’re proud to serve between 120 and 140 people a delicious three-course community dinner. Our menu includes:
🥣 vegetarian soup
🍽️ A meat meal or a vegetarian meal
🍰 Dessert
☕ Tea and coffee

We also cater for a range of dietary needs, including vegetarian, gluten-free and lactose-free options, because everyone deserves a warm, nutritious meal.

But the evening is about so much more than food.

We’re grateful to have Orange Sky Laundry on site, providing free laundry facilities and hot showers, while Avalon offers clothing and other essentials to those who need them.

Before people leave, we also have takeaway food available from Tasty Fresh provided by Troy, Towers Community Pantry including tasty chicken rolls, a variety of pies and sausage rolls, so they have something to enjoy later or the following day.

It really is a wonderful community night. We love bringing people together, sharing a meal, offering practical support, and making everyone feel welcome, valued and cared for. ❤️

Thank you to Channel 7 for recognising the great work of OzHarvest Melbournet. Times are getting tougher and demand is increasing. We use fresh food for our Open House dinner on Thursday where we fed 130 people this week. We also provide much needed groceries to individuals and families Monday-Friday. Thank you to our wonderful participant who spoke, telling of the benefits. Note the other star of the show Marie, who coordinates our food relief, handling creates, making phone calls and welcoming hundreds of guests every week.
