Call-out for data returns from any community members who are doing plankton counts here in South Australia!
If you get the data return templates to me by 1:30 pm this Thursday (June 4 - tomorrow), your data will be in the dataset sent to Luke Mosley for uploading to the Streamlit harmful algal bloom display dashboard.
Feel free to share this call-out to any people you know doing plankton counts. Contact me with queries, or to find out how to contribute.

The image below is a Cryptophyte. Their chloroplasts have a range of different pigments so they can be khaki, blueish or reddish. The Jill Hudson award finalists for this year have been announced. This award is Conservation SA’s peak award. Nominees and finalists have all “walked the talk” sometimes at great personal cost. My hat is off (so to speak) to all of the finalists and other nominees. The awards night is on the 5th World Environment Day and tickets are available online at the links on Conservation SA’s website.

UK researchers, including from the Marine Biological Association and the University of Plymouth, have shown how the distributions of two phytoplankton groups known to produce natural toxins that can halt shellfish harvesting have changed in the North East Atlantic over the last six decades.

Congratulations to all the finalists. And personal warm thoughts to the statewide volunteers who have counted plankton through the algal bloom, from the Fleurieu Peninsula, Coorong, Kangaroo Island, southern metro, northern metro, Yorke Peninsula and Eyre Peninsula, over so many painful months.
